About this item

  • Comes as a single ring with 12 individually addressable RGB LEDs assembled and tested
  • 1.5 inches outer diameter
  • The rings are 'chainable'
  • Each one has 18 mA constant current drive
  • RoHS compliance

Adafruit 12 ultra bright smart LED NeoPixels are arranged in a circle with 1.5 inches (37 mm) outer diameter. The rings are 'chainable' - connect the output pin of one to the input pin of another. Use only one microcontroller pin to control as many as you can chain together. Each LED is addressable as the driver chip is inside the LED. Each one has 18 mA constant current drive so the colour will be very consistent even if the voltage varies, and no external choke resistors are required making the design slim. Power the whole thing with 5V DC and you're ready to rock.

There is a single data line with a very timing-specific protocol. Since the protocol is very sensitive to timing, it requires a real-time microcontroller such as an AVR, Arduino, PIC, mbed, etc. It cannot be used with a Linux-based microcomputer or interpreted microcontroller such as the netduino or Basic Stamp. Our wonderfully-written Neopixel library for Arduino supports these pixels. As it requires hand-tuned assembly it is only for AVR cores but others may have ported this chip driver code so please google around. An 8 MHz or faster processor is required.

The Adafruit NeoPixel Ring stands out for its exceptional value, delivering far more than its modest price tag suggests. Not only is it incredibly easy to program, thanks to the helpful example sketch provided by Adafruit, but it also impresses with its brightness and color quality.I used the NeoPixel Ring for a project that required smooth color transitions, and it performed brilliantly. The brightness level was way beyond my expectations, making the colors pop with an intensity I hadn't anticipated. Every hue was vivid, and the transitions were seamless, adding a professional polish to my work.Integrating this LED ring into my Arduino project was straightforward, without any of the fuss you might expect from more complex components. The straightforwardness and reliability of the NeoPixel Ring are its strong suits, especially considering its affordability. It's a testament to Adafruit's commitment to quality and accessibility in their products. For anyone looking to enhance their projects with bright, dynamic lighting, the Adafruit NeoPixel Ring is a standout choice. Its combination of ease of use, surprising brightness, and overall quality makes it a must-have for hobbyists and seasoned makers alike.

Not much else to say about these - nice units, no problems, and as I said they work perfectly with FastLED.

The ring is very easy to work with and program with the Arduino software using the Neopixel library. The LEDs themselves are also very bright.

Came on time and worked well. At first I thought they sent me a dud, but it was my wiring shorting, and I'm glad it didn't fry it. Good to read the best practices first too, using a 1mf capacitor in parallel with the voltage and 300-500 ohm resistor in series with an input from a feather board.

Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Very bright and very easy to use with an Arduino.

Cool LEDs, would be great if there was a version with the controller integrated, so you just program directly.

This beautiful ring of RGB LEDs worked like a charm, and the Adafruit Neopixel library's strand test showed a complete array of colors. One warning, though: this thing is bright enough that it hurt my eyes to look at it in the dark. Even so, there was no permanent damage and those little 5050 LEDs are arrayed so that the test ran counterclockwise (the larger 16 LED ring runs clockwise with the same test).I just love this. Hands-down, great for the price.
