Your cart is empty.Daniel asante carves an extraordinary djembe drum from tweneboa wood. He depicts solemn faces in high relief that gaze thoughtfully from the base. Illustrating a wise saying, its name tikoro nkoagyina is an Akan word meaning "two heads are better than one." the djembe originated in Benin, where it is used during voodoo rites, and has been introduced into neighboring countries. It is indispensable in contemporary reggae. The goatskin head is affixed by iron rings wrapped in cotton, and a macrame cord can be slung over the shoulder.

I got this for my BF as a graduation gift, he used to play in his hometown. He hasn’t seen it yet, but will post an update once he does. It is so beautiful and truly handcrafted (not made in some sweatshop in the East).

The drum is well made and looks and sounds great. only issue is the shipping. A piece broke off at the bottom and i had to wood glue it back together.

This drum arrived on time and in good shape. It is definitely a conversation piece due to the colors and hand carving. The sound is good for a beginner. Not sure how an experienced drummer would rate it. Very pleased and it adds to the decor of my music room when not being played. Beautiful!

Purchased this for my son who is a percussionist and very interested in djembes. Knowing who the artist is and that the purchase will be benefiting him and his community directly was important. I had not heard of Novica before, but I am pleased to have been introduced to the organization. Highly recommend.
