So it's hard to tell yet if it is doing exactly what we want** because we aren't testing our water. It is compact and the overall quality is excellent. Nothing seems cheap or flimsy.I would have given five stars, but here's why i didn't. It mounts easily enough, but the mounting bracket is not quite long enough to hold the unit away from the wall far enough to easily slip the included wrench up onto the large nut. Also, the weight of the unit causes the plastic bracket to flex down slightly, angling the filter cartridge body back toward the wall. So you have to pull the bottom out slightly to get the wrench behind it, and then you have to wrestle it up over the nut because there isn't quite enough room between the nut and the wall for the wrench. You can pick which holes are used to hold the filter and i picked the farthest away from the wall, but it still is not quite far enough. So while it is compact, and they worked hard to get it to mount close to the wall, they didn't take the final position into account 100%. All that said, you shouldn't have to use the wrench often, so this is not an every day problem.I put this on the water line going into the water heater. This is intended to treat all the hot water being used in the house, including bathing, sinks, dishwasher, and laundry.I also bought a smaller unit to treat the cold water feeding the clothes washing machine. (Bought an extra hose and some pipe-to-garden hose fittings.) It is mounted on the wall behind the washing machine. So the hot water for the whole house, and the cold water just for the washing machine, are treated.**We have hard water with a lot of calcium in it, and want to have our towels and sheets and clothes come out soft and comfortable instead of feeling rough and crispy. We also wanted our soap to lather up better/longer while bathing, and to have less hard water staining on our dishes. So the hot water is treated for the laundry and dishwasher and bathing. And a smaller unit treats the cold water also just for the washing machine. So far, we have begun to notice an small improvement in the softness of our towels and in how our soap lathers up while bathing. But we will continue to monitor progress and see how things get affected the longer we use it.

This water filter has literally changed our lives. Showers are a joy and the amount of shampoo we use has gone down significantly. My dermatologist was suggesting I shower less than every day because, especially in the winter, my skin was dry, flaky and (to be honest) had a film of hard water calcium all over me!! This filter has changed all that. I haven't had to descale the Keurig in 6 months and WAS descaling it every 3 weeks before. The filters are expensive but SO worth the cost in terms of personal care and the plumber says the calcium/lime buildup in the pipes of our house is clearing out over time. The inside of the tankless hot water heater is as clean as a shiny penny. HIGHLY recommend this water system. I had the plumber install it so that there are shut off valves easily accessible, no crawling around and I'd do it again at twice the price.

Nuvo H2O filter does not soften your water it treats it as advertised, it definitely keeps the minerals from collecting in your plumbing system . I use this filter in conjunction with a 5 micron Gac filter and a 5 micron sediment filter. It takes about 3-4 months before you start noticing the difference. Note that everyone has water from different sources City, Well etc. and each system is specific so before you purchase get your water tested so you know what your PH level is as well as your alkaline levels are that will let you know if other filters are needed in conjunction with the Nuvo H2O .I’ve been plumbing Contractor for 44 years and I highly recommend these filters.

I was a little afraid to take the plunge and order this product. However, I'm glad we did. Due to the way our water is plumbed, we could not use a salt water softener. I installed this system in a bedroom closet (I didn't want to put salt in a closet.). I did the work myself using pex. It wasn't that hard…kind of like using Legos. We've had it installed for 5 months now, and the original cartridge seems to still be working. (It's just my wife and me living here.) We live in OKC, and it is working for our water. The instructions say that your water's PH level needs to be above 7.2. I would assume this might have something to do with some of the bad reviews, so CHECK YOUR WATER'S PH LEVEL. :)We bought this house, and it was only a year old. This means our dishwasher had only been used for a year. I seriously thought we were going to have to buy a new dishwasher. I had our water tested. It was somewhere between 16-17 grains (I can't remember exactly.). We bought an electronic water tester for our reverse osmosis system, and our water reads at around 450…which I believe is quite high. Anyway, the Nuvo H2O saved our dishwasher. It was hardly able to run is was so clogged with hard water deposits, but after using the Nuvo for a few weeks our dishwasher was clean and ran like a champ. On top of that, our dishes are actually clean. (We had stopped using the dishwasher, because our dishes looked so terrible.) I might add that the dishes were amazingly clean after this installation. We added Wave Jet Auto Dishwasher Rinse Aid, and our dishes are super squeaky clean. You'd never know we have hard water.I understand that not everyone has had this experience. Bottom line, check your water's PH level and go from there. Don't expect this to be a water softener. It can take care of hard water buildup, but you will not get the same slick feeling you get from softened water. There will still be some hard water scale, but it isn't the same. It tends to build up in our bathroom sink drains, but it's more of a powder. It wipes up with a paper towel. I don't understand it, but that's the way it is. We are very pleased with this product!
