Fit and worked perfectly. Looked brand new and not remanufactured that I could tell. Didn't count the teeth to make sure, should have first, but my old one was 9 tooth. This one said it was, and it works perfectly with my engine and the flywheel spacing. Time will tell how it holds up, but so far I'm pleased. J.Deere lists all manner of replacement numbers, but most of those do say 10 teeth, so I was skeptical if they would work and opted for this one that stated 9. My original starter nameplate said 12 098 03; and 128000-7480 on it.

At first, I was excited to see this starter work! However, after the 2nd time mowing, the starter stopped working. Save yourself some time and purchase an OEM starter. It fits, but it's not worth the value for your money or replacement value.I got tired of purchasing these cheap starters because they only work a couple of times before you have to replace them again.

Nice starter works great. But a bolt on was not for my machine. Snapper Mower. Had to drill mounting holes in the starter holes were just a few thousands off, also had to add a .012 shim for a center line up. The starter does work smooth and quick plenty of force to start engine.

I bought for a John Deere LX173 with 15 HP Kohler engine. It fits perfectly fine. It seemed like a good deal at $50 when the one from Deere was $300 range or almost $200 for original Denso type from small engine shop. I bought in December 2017, and as of April 2020 only a little over 2 years, I had some starting trouble again. The reason I’m writing the review now, is at first I was upset, thinking this starter went bad after a couple years. Others that wrote bad reviews may have had this issue and didn’t realize it. When I went between the terminals on this starter with a jumper or metal screwdriver or such (the battery cable terminal to the flat spade terminal) it would turn over EVERY time. (Make sure out of gear in neutral for safety, and I also kept key in off position for this test so engine didn’t start running, it just lets in turn over. When I turn key to try to start, I’d just get a click, every time. I tried it many times. So I knew there was a problem in the wiring. It’s a common issue on lawn tractors with some age, or even some vintage farm tractors, to get resistance in wiring going from ignition switch, through wiring to safety switches like neutral on gear shift, and seat switch, to the starter, and it isn’t enough energy to “energize” the solenoid on the starter anymore. This can happen with old wiring with increased resistance, or your battery getting weaker. Anyway, I hope this helps some people whether your old starter is bad or if it’s just in your wiring, or if the starter actually needs replaced. Also, I’m thinking some bad reviews on here may be because the person writing it didn’t know that this was the issue and this replacement starter is actually ok. Anyway, if it is in the wiring, a good mower shop should have a “relay” you could use to fix the wiring problem, that co,es with instructions and shouldn’t be very expensive. The relay energizes the starter solenoid easier.
