If you run a chainsaw a lot you already know this, but every four or five times you sharpen your saw, you need to check your raker height as well. The raker is the curved tooth that stands in front of the cutting edge-- it controls the depth of cut that the cutter tooth can grab. If the raker is too high, you won't be sawing well even with razor sharp cutters-- on the other hand, eyeballing the rakers can be tricky because if you take too much off the saw will be super aggressive, grab too much wood per cut and either get bogged down or become hard to control.Using a raker gauge to check your rakers is the way to go, at least periodically-- and this kit works fine.

I'd say the best part of this kit is the file. The guide is almost accurate, almost. I've seen better. However, for the price, this kit is probably the best bang for the buck. It does a good job of filing the rakers. I would recommend this product.

In just a few minutes my chains were as good as new now that the rakers were filed evenly down. Thanks!

MS390・50cmバー用に購入しました。デップスチェックをすると少し削る必要が・・・。72コマ中の約7割を削ることに。削った後も手間を惜しまず、全コマゲージチェックしました。50cc超のチェンソーでは必須な気がします。

I grabbed this too keep as a spare in truck. I've had this style 'Raker'/drag/depth gauge before. Personal favorite is the simple flat plate multi-gauge tool husky makes, but any gauge us better then none when your out on the job..Im a full-time tree guy. can't beat the price of this gauge & flat file. The file is a good file, stays clean, removes saw'chain rakers in a pass or too. Another thing about this gauge, it's simple too use. Good easy instructions on back of package, so anybody on my crew can use it. (Now they just need too learn how too sharpen chain by hand with a round file).Good thing about this,any..raker gauge, it keeps both sides of the rakers even, depending height of actual tooth, since it set across the 2x cutting teeth "working edge' of teeth in front of and behind, the one your hitting.Your best too skip every other tooth, (keep too one side ie: right side, then switch too opposite side, ie: left side, you'll feel the file removing material smoother, easy,no squeek noise..that said just changing angles of file or/and directly, 'against/with grain, will stop that noise too. check youtube #buckinbillyray & others for saw sharpening tips..But it's a great lill' kit for giving a good pretty darn even precise gauge' over the rakers/drags. And it's fairly fast an easy too get a hang of.First day I had gauge. had a chain on a 562xp husky, starting too cut on angle. This gauge will help make sure it gets you back cutting strait, cutting-removing material all even, effeciecnt, smooth. Great tool for any saw owner. Set @ .25" is avg recommended height for rakers vs. cutting edge. I use too like them at more, ore less, depending saw power. Chain type, size.. tree species. Dry, wet. Etc. Most pro's adjust there chains with files accordingly. But this gauge set at .25" thou, is about perfect for regular 3/8"/.375 semi/full chisel chains.Only complaint about this style gauge, is the file slides across it, an after a few chains, the romoval of its own material will start too increase the amount of material your removing off if the rakers. But it's better then no gauge at all. And the file holds up fine.

The file included is a bit small and flimsy, although cute. Seems to work OK, no other complaints--it is a good tool to have. Cost is good. Got this more for the Depth Gauge than the file. Home Depot charges over $9 just for the gauge, so this is a good deal, especially if you combine the shipping with other purchases and get free shipping.Other places have this product too, but charge for shipping.
