The Origin8 SS Cranks is a modest quality crankset. I have about 350 miles on them and they work well. That said, these $102 cranks do NOT compare to high end Sugino RD4 or 75 cranks. $102 vs $450-$600 is a big difference. Many cyclist do NOT want to pay that amount on cranks, chainring and a special JIS BB. By time you add the Origin8 Torqlite BB, you will be around the $160 range. For the recreational cyclist, these cranks work well. If you seek a high performance crank, Sugino would serve you better.

A true beauty, at less than 590g extremely lightweight and stiff. Very well made crankset, and clearly more high-end than the Pure Fix 44T, that I also ordered (see images). The Origin8 Crankset will work best with a 68x103mm bottom bracket on most single speed / track frames to create a nice chainline or about 45mm and small gap between cranks and frame (it looks like even narrower BB will work fine). Personally, I had just installed a new 113mm bracket days before, which is way too wide for the Origin8 crankset but nice with the purefix, so I decided to return the Origin8 with tears in my eyes.

Pretty nice cranks for the $$$. Arrived promptly and was well packed. Fit was perfect. Went from a 44mm chainring, so I had to order a new chain. No buggy, as I would have replaced the chain anyway. This crank set replaced a set of beach cruiser cranks. I bent one going up a super step hill. Didn't ever know you could do that. At any rate, dinomite replacement. Much nicer than pictured. Would definitely recommend. However, it is only one mans opinion.

Beautiful crankset, but somewhat disappointed in the fact that it's packaged and sold as an Origin8 crankset when it's clearly marked on the inside of both cranks with the Lasco name. If I wasn't I such a hurry to get this bike built, I would've send them back and ordered the Lasco version for less money. With that said, they fit well on my 97 Gary Fisher Wahoo single-speed conversion project and look great. Installation was easy and they're clearly marked with the recommended torque values for the crank bolts. Add a drop of blue loctite to each bolt, torque them properly, and you shouldn't have any problem with the bolts backing out.

Acquired this component to convert my vintage Klein mountain bike into a road bike. I had in mind to spend the least amount as possible, but to lighten my bike as much as possible. Although these goals are not complimentary, a careful choice of parts with the deletion of some parts, can see significant weight reduction, making my vintage 1989 bike at least somewhat competitive on a group ride. This Origin8 part eliminates five components: two chain rings, a front derailleur, a front shifter, and associated cabling, while adding a sweet looking piece that is in the same weight ballpark as the vintage factory spec'd Shimano Deore crank set. I ordered the anodized blue with some hesitation, as the picture shows a splotchy blue, and the product description says in essence, that "actual product may vary in color." I'm glad to say, that at least in this color choice, the anodizing is MUCH better than in the picture. It is a rich, Robin's egg blue, with no mottle and no splotchiness, and matches the bluing on my name-brand Sun rims and Fat Feather seat post. And this is a hard-anodized finish (not painted on - as seen in other, less expensive crank set offerings in Amazon). So for those looking to shed weight, keep expenditures to a minimum, and cause some controversy by showing up on a road ride with a converted mountain bike with some fixie parts, get this single in bad boy blue.

I bought this crank set after having problems with another crank I bought on Amazon.http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008PNU4WS/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1398693106&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40I carefully installed these cranks but was disappointed when it developed a creak after a day or two of riding. Oh well I figured, you get what you pay for.So I went back and bought the Origin 8, since they were over 2.5x the price it should be better right? Wrong. I received the crankset and laid the two next each other. They were the EXACT SAME crank arms as the previous set (aside from a different logo and two cosmetic machined pockets).I installed the Origin 8 cranks very carefully but again, in a day or two, they began to creak just the like the set I replaced.I finally found a decent crankset on eBay and when I removed the Origin 8s there was significant signs of wear inside the taper where it attaches to the spindle. Not sure what "aluminum alloy" they are using but it would appear it is not strong enough. In short these are poorly designed cranks, but if that is what you are looking for, save yourself $50 and buy the cheaper version. They are the exact same part.

I got this for a single speed I've been working on for a few months (1980's 58cm Takara 10speed... its fast). It fits great but you need to make sure you are putting it on a new bottom bracket and not an old 80's style one like mine, it helps get the chain in line. The only con to this crank set is it squeaks if you put BMX pedals on it! Why BMX pedals? Well i like riding with sandals on and it gives me more foot area... I have big feet OK.... and it a cool kid thing + that is what I had available!! Some bike lube takes care of the Cranky Cranks for a little while, but it comes back every now and then. Like i said great cranks and it was delivered in a ratty box.. hit to delivery man..but came in great condition and work fine. The paint is a little cheep looking and shiny but has not come off yet, the gears are changeable using an allen wrench so if i want to go up in teeth i can which is great.overall i like it and would buy it again if needed!

Excellent product at low cost. Looks really good on my bamboo bike. I had a 3/32 chain but have to replace with a 1/8 x 1/2 chain. No biggie. Still waiting for the chain but expect it to work well.
