This tool is absolutely indispensible if you deal with spring style hose clamps. Especially ones that are located deep in the engine bay, such as heater core hose clamps. This is a fantastic tool for such clamps. However, I have to say this tools feels prettt cheap. I'm a fan of OTC tools, I some of their other automotive specialty tools like the ball joint press. That is an absolute unit of a tool, so my expectations were pretty high for this tool. It works just fine, but it does not have the bulletproof feel of a lot of other OTC tools.

This set of pliers saved me many hours of job over the years. Working on mostly Ford Focus, this cars has clamps at impossible locations i.e, under the intake manifold, between ac compressor and fan shroud, just name it! Most recent cars have very limited space to work under the hood. It’s part of the game to remove many components in order to access the desired faulty component that needs to be serviced. It can reach where my other preferred tools wont. Forget about long nose pliers or regular pliers when dealing with hard to reach clamps. After many jobs, these pliers are still working flawlessly everytime i need them around. If they ever break, i will replace them.

Used it several times and had worked well. There are times where it doesn't work only because not enough room.

Purchased the tool and should have had one a LONG time ago. One problem is that the ratchet latch teeth are not fine enough. This only becomes a problem if you can't remove the clamp from the hose within the range of a ratchet stop at the end of the hose clamp springs travel. So you endup holding pressure on the tool and only one hand to try and move the hose clamp. The worst case is the clamp will not slide off the hose and you try and pull a hose off with one hand and the other is holding the tool. love how easy it is to remove most clamps but there has to a better adjustment or something.

These are the greatest hose clamp pliers!! They fit into any awful tight spots and the locks have never failed once even on the heavy duty rad hose clamps. Massive time saver and awesome product I would buy these again in a heartbeat they are great.

This is easily one of the best tools I have ever purchased. I'm a casual week end mechanic, maintaining my own fleet of 5 vehicles. I have always managed to get by without any special tools for the factory type hose clamps. I was getting ready to do the water pump on my pickup and decided to splurge and finally give these a try. As you can imagine, I now only wonder why I waited so long. I hardly cursed at all using these things, they work great. I replaced the upper and lower radiator hoses and reused the original clamps. They also worked great on the smaller heater hose clamps and in some pretty tight situations. No matter the position of the clamp, I managed to get the tool on. I don't think the tool seems flimsy as a few others mentioned. It seems sturdy and well built for its intended use. You do need a strong grip to get them to open the bigger clamps all the way, but nothing the average person will struggle with. Overall I am very happy with them. Even if I don't use them for another year or two, I have no regrets.

Great tool. This has helped tremendously on my current project. One minor hiccup - the clamp gets jammed in the slide rather than the jaws occasionally. Not a big deal - just a small annoyance. I would have no issue recommending this to anyone.Edit 01/02/15: This clamp tool saved my butt. I am working on an 02 Ford replacing the 9 different heater hoses on this little car and would not have been able to reach 1/2 of the constant pressure clamps Ford uses with normal pliers. The thing is a lot stronger than expected. I'm about halfway through replacing the hoses. I am happily surprised with the strength and reach this tool has. The previous jamming was a user error.I wish I would have had this for prior vehicles. You will truly appreciate the tool when you realize that there would have been NO WAY to reach a clamp without it. My "no issues" in recommending this has changed to one of the "must have" small tools for a garage shade tree mechanic. If the tool's durability becomes questionable, I will update this review accordingly.

If I was still using mi tools to earn mi living I would have spent more on a more profetional pair but for occasional use these are plenty good and the price is right.

This is a tool I put off buying until I absolutely had to have it to get to a clamp I couldn't reach. I'm sorry I waited so long to get it!The tool even makes getting accessible clamps off much easier, due to its ratcheting locking mechanism that holds the clamp open for you to slide it off. This also works to put the clamps back on easily. I like nicely made tools, and this seems solidly constructed. It feels good in the hand, has decent weight, and a nice powder coat finish. If the clamp is very wide, you may need to use both hands to squeeze the handles to get it started. I liked using it enough to log on and write this review. Also, this tool is made in Taiwan, not China, and I don't think you could easily damage it through use as another reviewer speculated.

It kinda works, and it is sometimes more convenient than using large pliers. Sometimes it's hard to get pliers to grab on to large clamps without slipping off. This tool grabs clamps correctly, that part of the design is solid. The fact that you don't have to fit the pliers into spots that are too tight is definitely a benefit. The problem is that the detents on the ratchet are too large, and usually you can't rely on the detent to expand your clamp fully, especially in the last detent. You need to squeeze constantly with one hand while trying to maneuver the head with the other. The leverage is pretty low, so you have to squeeze HARD to get anything done. Maneuvering the head is not easy, as there's no real provision for grabbing. It's pretty hard to wiggle a tight clamp over a bulged hose. I was constantly afraid a large clamp would pop out of the jaws from all the manhandling and take one of my fingers. Releasing the lock without having the clamp move out of alignment is another fun experience...Overall I'm glad I have the tool and can put down the old pliers. But it could be sooo much improved if it was designed by a human with half a brain. If someone knows of a better model, please suggest it.

Great tool. I used to battle with the spring type hose clamps using all sorts of pliers and vise grips, etc. They were a real PITA to get, especially in tight clearance spaces. This tool makes dealing with the spring clamps a piece of cake. So much so that I now actually PREFER the spring clamps over the typical worm gear clamp. I know why the use them from the factory- the clamps never need tightening, don't damage the hose, and are cheap.Don't think twice about this purchase, just get them!
