For its intended use, this product gets the job done. I use it for removing packing material in boat hull shafts that revolve and need a water seal.

I bought this to pull out the packing in the stuffing box on my 37 ft Silverton. It really worked well . Because of the shaft angle it would be hard to extract the packing without this.

Packing removal in Ultra Jet Boat. Barracuda pump.This tool was well worth the purchase price. I have a Barracuda pump. Very similar to a Berkley. When I opened the package I thought it might be too short. However, the short length was perfect for maneuvering the tool in the shaft cavity to twist the tool in and pull the packing out.

I needed a tool to remove broken wiring from an antique chandelier arm tube. Small diameter, flexible, and able to grab and pull out the unwanted gunk without breaking the surrounding material. I had spent about 20 hours trying everything else I could think of under the sun. This tool did the job in 2 minutes. I can't speak to it's ability to pull seals but I'm so glad it was available and I would recommend it for anyone needing an unusual use such as mine.

Item received is correct diameter, but is nowhere near as long as in the photo. Doesn't bother me, but it might bother others.

Sometimes you really just need the right tool for the job. Repacking a stuffing box while impersonating a circus contortionist is one of those times, and this is the tool.Make sure you get the extractor that matches the packing size.If only they came when called, I seem to keep losing them :-)

The tip pulled out of the handle of the tool. I then threw it in the trash. I ended up using oring picks to remove the old packing.
