The platypus gravity system is great except their water bags aren’t very long lasting. I got a more robust Sea to Summit water bag but now how to hook it up for gravity feed. That’s where I thought this little cap might fit perfect. Not. The removable piece in the middle barely hold by a little friction: it fits on the wrong side of the cap to prevent water pressure in the bag from popping it out. As I want to use this inside a vehicle, it’s a no go. What is this designed for exactly, and what purpose do some of the shapes and ridges etc serve? Who knows, no instructions whatsoever in the package or their website. The white part seems only there to protect the inside cap from getting dirty, fine, but what’s the rubber insert all about then. Instructions might have clarified a few things. Alas, this isn’t getting any use right now.

My preferred water bottle for years, when hiking, has been a Nalgene Oasis Canteen nested in a canteen cup (for boiling, etc.). I also use a Sawyer Squeeze water filter. The problem is there's no way to connect the Sawyer (or any other water filter I'm aware of!) to a canteen which doesn't have the standard 28mm or 42mm top. This adapter solves that problem and can work with many different sized water bottles that are of non-standard size. It's a little pricey for what you actually get, but so is everything related to hiking!

I was going to use it for a 6 gallon clean water tank and a 2.5 gallon collapsible clean water tank however they both have the same opening and thread pattern and this doesn't work for them but overall it's a decent product. I ended up taping it on but will probably find a different option. Or a better way to stick it on there without having to use tape.

I am not entirely sure what this is for or how it performs for that specific use but I can share how I was able to use this in an awesome magivering plan. For ages I have been plagued trying to find an alternative to a water bladder that was still primarily hands free. The typical alternative is a nalgene bottle that you have to keep taking in and out of your bag. I had been formulating ways of turning a nalgene into a water bladder but couldn't get past the issue that your water bottle walls collapse in as you drink. When I came across this item, I figured out the solution to a makeshift bladder.Anyway I will explain what I did but also included photos for reference. I cut four small holes along the inner ring of the blue lid. You can see 4 screws coming out to show where I cut. On the inside of the lid, I put a straw from my 40oz therma flask bottle and on the outside I attached a water bladder tube. With the four small holes now cut into the lid, air is able to escape when you drink preventing the walls of the water bottle from collapsing while still allowing water to flow freely up the tube. For 12 bucks I can now carry two 48 oz nalgenes on my hikes or backpacking trips without fear of my bladder bursting or having to shove all my gear (including a bear canister) into the pack along with the bladder. Hope this helps someone with a similar issue :)

A little pricey but adds versatility to the Platypus Gravity Filter system. Lets it connect with other water containers.

I attached this to my nalgene bottle and attached the small center piece. On one end of the center piece I put tubing to place in the bottle. The other end I attached tubing and a mouth piece and turned my nalgene water bottle into a hydration bladder which stays in my backpack side pocket. It works perfect. Next I will attach a sawyer filter to the tube. It works better than any system I have purchased. Now I won't have to stop hiking every time I need water and have to fight to reach my bottles.

Works great and makes it less likely to get unfitted water near the mouth of bottle.Often I find myself filtering water from a small spring on the side of a steep trail and it is awkward to keep everything clean. This makes it much more easy.

works as advertised but I probably could have just used the nalgene adapter that came with my old pump filter. But that said if you are looking at this you are probably considering a gravity filter and to that I say buy it and never look back. They are fantastic.

I use this with my Katadyn Base Camp filter to fill nalgene bottles. The hose out of the base camp fits perfectly and securely. Probably the best aspect of the design of this adapter is that it allows air to escape, so your gravity filter will not stop filling. Sure, a little water may leak out the top, but that's not a problem worth worrying about in my book. Genius! One thing that does not show well in the pictures is the bottom side comes with a screw in cover that protects the output side of the adapter. And one more thing... the blue insert is removable, and stepped in varying sizes of diameter so that it could be used in a multitude of bottles. One small addition I would appreciate is a cover, or method of closing, for the input nipple. I would like to just toss it in the base camp bag (yes the part that hold the "dirty" water) and not have to thing about all the creepy-crawlies getting into the adapter. Just a small wish.
