I use a Portable Winch PCW-4000 for dragging wood and trees. When you can use it, the mount is much more stable than using straps. You just need a tree or post to attach it to to use it. It's a keeper.

Using the tree mount considerably reduces winching effort. You no longer are trying to steady the winch as it bucks with increases and decreases in line tension. Now i can just focus on the load. I should have bought it when i first got the winch.

There are two models for my winch, the PCW-5000. I like this one because of it's short resting plate. I hump a lot of my equipment in by sled or pack, so the smaller one is a blessing. I use it every day!

I have owned a Portable Winch for some time and love its light weight and how effectively it helps with cleaning up our mountain property where accessibility is limited in areas. I had always used a tree strap before when I was away from our tractor path but it is really difficult to keep the unit level to prevent the low-oil sensor from stopping the motor and because I have to carry everything into the woods, it needed to be as light as possible. This unit works the best for me-the pivot action keeps the winch aligned with the load and I am able to stand safely off to the side where I can watch for any snags or issues with the pull. Fairly priced, well made and perfect for the job.
