I use a condenser mic, so having the phantom power on this is really great! And to have a preamp you can use between your mic and your phone makes things so much easier!Only downsides I’ve discovered after using it for about a month now is, it will give you a lot of interference when the 9v loses about half its juice. You’ll get static or a knocking sound. You’ll lose sound quality at about 50% loss in power on your 9V battery that powers it. Replacing 9v batteries that frequent gets expensive! If I could wave a magic wand to change a couple of things on the iRig, it would be an option to draw power via a 110 plug or by USB and reserve the battery power if you’re taking your mic to record on the road.I also wish there was more than an arrow printed on the iRig for the Gain. It’s more of moving the switch to find the right sound. If you plan on buying this, definitely invest in some rechargeable 9v’s. By the time I decided to get those, I had spent double what the rechargeable batteries cost in replacements. So you’ll be thankful for them.Other than that, the phantom power sounds SMOOTH!

One and only device to connect mobile to use condensor mic for sing karoke on Starmaker and Smule.Very crystal clear sound recorded on Karoke singing Application.Only thing need to give DC adaptor to give supply for iRig Device so no need to change battery after use of aporox.10 hrs.Only use powerfull 9V battary like DURACELL,not to use cheap battery ,will not get clear sound as require.I have purchased battery from Amazon as battery is not easily available in shops.

Great product. I regretted I didn't buy it because I couldn't trust such a small device. I bought an audio interface instead which disappointed me so much as the recording volume is so low plus I can not use it on my cellphone. I decided to give iRig Pre a try since it is not expensive. To my surprise, I immediately loved it, the voice is beautiful and clear with my Shure sm58 and Audio-Technica and it is so potable and easy to use on my cellphone to record at anytime. Before having it, my blue yeti was my favorite, but now, I love iRig Pre more.

So I bought this nearly three years ago to improve the audio quality of my Youtube videos. For the longest time I used it with Shure SM57 Beta with first my iPhone 4s - now my iPhone SE and ore recently I have been using it with a SE4400 Condenser Mic.I have lots of good things to say about this product and below I have listed a series of Pros. Just a heads up though- I have nothing bad to say about this product and completely recommend it to anyone who produces their own music.Pros:- Super Small and Portable - will be taking on a beach trip to record with my laptop onto Logic Pro.- Yes - CAN RECORD ON MAC; I used this on my phone for ages until today when I realized that I could record into my computer. This is a total Game changer.- Crazy Affordable- Phantom Power lets you use so many high quality condenser mics = priceless- Battery life is Good- The Aux-in to the phone is perfectly synced with video.- Aux-out on the device means you can monitor yourself while you record - perfect on the computer.Overall:A truly astounding piece of equipment that allows people to record quality audio tracks into their phone or computer with good microphones - of course with convenience of being super small and affordable. The Bottom Line:While I cannot say that the audio quality is like a pro studio- this is unreal for the price and size. I can without a doubt say that having a device like this is absolutely priceless to be able to use it on your phone for quick Videos or to even multi-track record in a DAW on your Mac.PS. I have owned this for three years and tend to destroy everything - so although this is plastic- its stood the test of time and moreover is a cheap replacement.

So much better than the (lower-priced) competitor's "rig" product. The iRig Pre worked immediately when I put the (included) 9V battery in it, plugged my condenser mic into it and then plugged the feed end into my iPad 2. Turned on Garage Band and the mic sounded great. My only disappointment was not having the ability to monitor directly through the headphone jack on the iRig. I figured out how to turn the monitor on in GB, but it still wouldn't monitor through the headphones. It played back fine after recording, but the point of having a monitor function is to hear what's *being* recorded. Then, for some unknown reason, I turned it all back on today and I got monitor sound (with GB tweaking it) in the headphones. I don't think I changed anything other than turning the iPad off and back on - maybe that's all it needed. So if you bought one of these and the monitor function doesn't work, just turn everything off and back on, making sure your monitor setting on the iPad app is turned on.

I cannot thank iRig enough for this product. I used this to live stream our Sunday service and it works wonders for us.I hook this up to our mixer, with an xlr cable of course, and to my iPhone and i have the least expensive way to stream.I've also used it with condensor microphone and regular dynamic microphone and it works just as well.Although i will say it is very gain sensitive, when i use it with our digital mixer I don't even have turn it on and I have to put it at the lowest gain settings or else the sound will be distorted. With microphones it isn't as severe but you still have to be careful so that you don't record distorted sound. But overall a great product and also iRig has some other wonderful easy to use practice and inexpensive product.

It works and it was cheap,The gain control is a little wheel on the side with no numbers or indicators. So good luck getting back to that perfect level. If you are serious about sound quality want 24 bit you are going to want to spend more money on your input device. But for what it is you can make good sounding 16-bit quiet recordings with this little device. it runs off of a 9 volt battery which is a great Pro when it comes to where you can record. it has phantom power. You could hook up a high quality microphone and record in the middle of nowhere off the electric grid. great for iPad or.. it works on my Android with the Audio Evolution multi tracking app.

I have tried lots of different things to be able to record audio from a handheld microphone to my iPhone or iPad. Much to no success. This is the only way I have found that it actually works and sound professional. I have a Zoom H4n Recorder which has the XY mics and 2 XLR inputs but I needed one for another microphone in case I was doing an interview and that needed 3 handheld mics. The XY mics of the Zoom are amazing, but you just cannot beat how clean and loud the sound of a handheld mic is during an interview. After doing an interview and bringing in the tracks into the editor, I see the Loudness and clarity was very close between the audio recorded using the Zoom, and the Audio recorded by my iPhone using the iRig PRE with the iRig Rec Premium iPhone Software. They were all recorded with the same XLR cable and Microphone as well to keep it consistent. There seem to be slats on the back of the unit which allows you to strap this onto something. I am planning to use a Velcro strap and wrap it around my iPhone. That being said, I would be careful about using this on the field that often because unlike the Zoom which mounts directly to the top of my DSLR, this will have to be either awkwardly strapped to my iPhone which would be mounted on top of my camera, or not be mounted at all and be placed separately on a table or something. If you are doing recordings indoors or for light duty, this is great. This is portable, clean sounding and convenient. But it is not ruggedly built enough to be taken out in the field as the case is not sturdy enough nor is the wire. I would not rely on just this as my primary recording solution. But for light duty recording for amateurs, studio work, or indoor interviews this is fantastic.
