About this item

  • Create Vivid Colors - This powder dye for fabric is ready to pack your wardrobe with color. The wide variety of vibrant shades helps you to create striking results in single colors or in full tie dye mode

For over 35 years, Jacquard has been dedicated to meeting the needs of artists and crafters everywhere. Family owned and operated, we have been the leader in artist materials for fabric and are committed to offering top quality materials to everyone from professional artists to hobbyists and students. Jacquard's Procion MX fiber reactive dye powder is best used as fabric dye for cotton, linen or other natural, plant-based fibers. It can be used with other fibers such as wool, alpaca, leather, and other protein-based fibers, however the tie dye dye solution should be mixed with either vinegar or citric acid for best results. Before application, your fabric or material should be soaked in a solution of one cup of soda ash to one gallon of water for about 20 minutes. This makes the clothing dye permanent and creates a washfast result. To get an even, brilliant color, use a ratio of one cup to 2 teaspoons of dye. This can be modified by diluting the mixture to create soft, dreamy pastels or increasing the concentration of dye to create deeper colors. The tie dye colors can also be mixed to create the perfect shade for your project! The dye powder goes a long way, as one 2/3oz jar will dye approximately 1lb of dry fabric. Once the dye is mixed, you can add it to a bottle for easy tie dyeing application, or add to a basin for dip dyeing or immersion dyeing. The traditional method of shibori tie-dye can be used as well by folding and tying your fabric into specific patterns and then applying the dye. Since the powder is in dye form before mixing, it's also great as ice dye powder, as the powder can be sprinkled on the ice and left to melt into your fabric. Because this is a cold water dye and doesn't need heat to set, Procion MX dye is perfect for an outdoor project! Throw a summer tie dye party or add some color to your wardrobe! With the versatile Procion MX dye, you have so many ways to make your clothing and accessories your own.

Bought these for my adult daughter as a gift. She loves them and she’s very impressed with them. They have improved her confidence with her tie dying.

I bought some months ago the version of the pack with the 8 tiny jars of 2/3 oz (18.71g), to make immersions and painting on mainly cotton (with soda ash). The technic isn't super straight-forward, as each pure powder has its difference in heat and time needed to cure, especially the turquoise which needed hotter temp. and longer time, but I was satisfied. So I ordered this big pack and realized they're the same powders except two: 068 Turquoise and 004 Lemon (or 3 if you count green, which is a mix). So I don't know if they changed their formulas between the productions of the small jars and those ones, or if the big jars always had different powders, but concerning the turquoise (batch #7032), it's a huge improvement: the powder is denser and is lot easier to set in the fibers (more like the other colors now). Concerning the yellow though (batch #7935), I think it's a small downgrade: the color and result on the fabric is the same, but surprisingly, this one doesn't dissolve well in water, even at small concentration: it stays dispersed and opaque, and settles below the water after some time. You can also see it when you're diluting some green, as I guess this yellow is the main part used to make this color. Not a huge problem, especially in painting, as the solution is thicker, but for the immersions, you'd have to mix even more to be sure you don't let yellow dye accumulating in the bottom.Anyway, that was my nitpicking, I still give 5 stars because it's clearly the best option when you order from abroad.

Love the vibrancy of the coloring! This is after multiple washes. Definitely wash before wear, and wear gloves. Beautiful display on each color 😍

The dyes are great, really brilliant and bright. I was really hoping for golden yellow that is featured and not the bright yellow I got. All in all the dyes work well though.

Just got back into tie dye and at half the price of the nearest competitor this was a no brainer! The set includes fuchsia, lemon and turquoise, which are the considered "primaries" of this brand, plus jet black, so with a bit of experiment you can get a lot of colours and tones from the basic set. I actually find mixing purple to be preferable to the (extremely expensive) violet in the Jacquard range!Of the 8 colours in the set, I only found lemon yellow to be reluctant to dissolve if used at anything above 2 TSP (10g) per 250ml. It will leave surface residue if you use it for ice dyeing too, although the colour travels well in this technique.None of the colours in the set appear to "bleed" or crack into separate colours during dyeing. The black however is tricky to get really dark, I'd mix some fuchsia and turquoise with it to get a deeper tone. All told a good value investment in my latest craft craze!

Quarantine reignited my love of tie dye. I kept buying Tulip brand, but I was getting frustrated with A. how pricey it was getting and B. how much the colors would fade and C. how far (or not) the bottles of dye went. I had the Procion set in my cart for a long time, and I debated getting it. I finally did, and I am SO glad I made the investment. I made a ton of stuff, but this t-shirt was my "wow" project. It's so bright and so colorful, and it's something that I would've purchased in a store for myself! I used soda ash first, and I let the dye set overnight. These dyes are really just something special. If you're into tie dye, Procion dyes are the way to go! They're pricey, but these will seriously last a long time. You need so little of it to make dye, and while it's a lot of $$ to drop at once, you won't have to keep purchasing inferior stuff from other brands. :)

It arrived fast and so far I am very happy. I do highly recommend buying soda ash with it. It has been fun to try out new patters and not have to worry so much about conserving the die.

I paid over $100 for these and I'm so disappointed! To start the product was delivered in a plastic amazon envelope! No padding or anything! Second, there is clearly product missing from these. You can see the reds on the right are missing product and so is the black on the left I am just so sad that I was excited to get these and It feels like a rip-off! Amazon is sending me a replacement and I will be sending these back! I will change this to a 5 star once I get my new product and they're all equally full!*edit*well, I feel stupid... I jumped to a conclusion and assumed that some of the products were used. I got a new set which was completely wrapped and they looked exactly the same as the first set. Some powders are clearly more dense than others. If you look at the black and maroon-looking ones it looks finer vs the others that look like powder.....oops changing to 4 stars for fast replacement and will change to 5 until I actually try the products and am happy with the quality.Posted photos of first delivery and replacement delivery, both identical!

Do a lot of tie-dying with kids and nieces/nephews, so it was time to invest - these are such a great value, this pack will probably last me for a good five years. Great assortment of colors, I only had to mix a couple of things for special orders (I've found when mixing colors, there may be some separation of the colors in the final product - so if it's crucial that you get the right color, in this case olive green for a Plankton figure and a reddish-brown for Scooby Doo, you should order that color specifically. These kids aren't too picky and the mixed colors turned out great). If you follow the recommendations for dying - 100% cotton fabric, pre-wash fabric, soak fabric in soda ash, and add urea to the dye itself, and you're careful while applying the dye, the outcome is spectacular every time.
