Haven't used this yet but looks a and feels well built, delivered in very timely manner and arrived in good shape.Haven't used yet because the very first time I went out crabbing I thought 'how hard can this be' and proceeded to launch it off the boat.Unfortunately I decided to not tie off to a cleat but rather do a lazy loop back around to kill some time...it disappeared in those 3 minutes. To date all I can think of was it must have got dragged off the self and plunged into the depths.I'm sure youl do better. Good luck ;)

Great trap. Heavy enough to stay on the bottom. Good access into the trap to clear the crab. Great heavy duty harness. No cheap plastic clips on harness like other trap packages. My only complaint is the rubber bands closing the trap and bait lid don’t last. They broke after the third use. I changed them out for bungee cords that I tied to the rot cord.

So along the Oregon coast to crab for tasty Dungeness crab these pots ROCK but if you use salmon for bait the seals will absolutely destroy a pot trying to get it. First time out my first trap had the bait cover hanging by one of those steel loops you see in the pic. Then you see how I used zip ties and stainless cable to fix the hinge and "sew" the bait cover closed and clipped, making seal invasion impossible. Then I added close able loops on the bottom for chicken legs so I no longer need zip ties. And that cool rubber band thing they send to keep the trap closed...yeah pitch that.

While I agree with most about the effectiveness of the traps I disagree that they are built to last. At best, with careful handling & proper upkeep they could possibly last 5-7 seasons. The fact of the matter is that they are a plastic coated wire that WHEN saltwater is able to access the wire it WILL begin to rust & degrade thus compromising the integrity of the trap. This WILL happen by dragging or mishandling on rough surfaces. Storing exposed to the element. Failing to rinse them off with fresh water after use. Shaking hard shell crabs out of the trap which nicks the coating exposing the wire. Problem number 2, they are light & WILL move with current if you do not weight them down. Problem number 3, seals make quick work of these traps & damage them extensively. Problem number 4, the cheap clips that hold the bait loading door on need some sort of reinforcement. Adding zip ties is a good option in case they fail. Positive number 1, these traps will work & work good. Positive number 2, they are easy to load bait. Positive number 3, they are easy to move since they are light. Positive number 4, you get everything necessary to start crabbing today. Bottom line, If you’re planning on crabbing year in & year out, its best to spend the same amount you did for this package & just buy a stainless steel commercial style pot that will last longer than you can physically go crabbing, which represents the better value.

I bought three of these to crab in Puget Sound WA as they meet the requirements. The crab pot is made heavy duty without feeling too heavy. We are pulling these up by hand after setting them in 50-70' of water. The weight seems heavy enough to not add weight but light enough to pull up by hand. I was going to get a motorized puller, but I don't think we need it for setting 4-6 crab pots. The leaded rope seems good. The harness and plastic clips seem nice. I would think they would be plenty strong for one season before they may dry out and crack. We are changing them to metal though. The crab pot access is good to remove the crab. Many times we get up to 9-11 crabs in the pot after just 4 hours. We usually get 1-2 keepers per cage but not always. The bait box is strong. The crabs will not eat through and bend the metal like on some crab pots. However, unless you use fish heads, the bait may slip out as the pot descends as the cage mesh is quite big. I will be trying a bait bag inside the bait box and a caged bait box as well. This might also help with setting the bait up the night before, then just removing it from your cooler and sticking it in. The buoy is minimal but you do need a red/white buoy for WA State. I bought another red/white buoy on a stick with a red flag as well and also other different color buoys that float in a ring making it easy to pick up with a boat hook. The more you can see the buoy the better even if you set a waypoint for your location. I think these traps should last a long time. Good luck with your crabbing!

I use these pots in Oregon (3 in all) and they are great! The float marker and weighted line are very nice. HOWEVER...I was very fortunate that the harness fell apart in my garage and not in the water. The way the yellow plastic line is attached to the clip is ridiculous. After the first line detached from the clip almost immediately, I pulled on the other three and they all came apart. This is a great way to leave your trap on the ocean bottom! A fine quality trap like this deserves a lot better harness!

I bought 3 of these for this crabbing season here in Oregon. I have used the Danielson traps for years, but I thought I would try something a bit sturdier. They work fantastically. The harness and lead line make it easy and the design of the opening at the top makes it easy to sort through the catch. Also, as the tides get a bit stronger I am confident that these traps will stay put. The Danielson traps also work great and are a very good value, but they are very light weight and I’ve had a few drift away during stronger tides.

WARNING! If you do not modify this harness at the clips; YOU WILL LOSE your pot! The rope is threaded thru the plastic clip then fed back up through the rope. NOT Tied! First time using this 3 outta 4 of the clip ropes unwinded and detached. I recommend buying spring clips and adding to the plastic clips or just replacing them as they are plastic. RETIE the clips! You have been warned! I believe they melt this harness rope inside itself. It will not hold! I bought 2 of these and Thank the crab gods I had a backup.

Well made crab trap, comes with everything you will need. I bought two traps and was delivered quickly to the door. I looked a similar traps at a fishing store near me and similar traps were almost $20.00 dollars more and did not include the rigging. I have crabbed with this type of trap in Canada and found that they work better then the square traps. The catch was almost double with these traps, it may be due to the round traps make it easier for the crabs to find the openings. Highly recommend this trap to anyone interested, they are well worth the money.
