SMETA 110V LPG Propane Gas Chest Freezer Absorption Fridge, Off-grid, with lock, 7.1 Cu.Ft, White

Our propane freezer work either on propane or on AC electricity, but they don't work as efficiently on electricity as they do on propane. The amount of propane you will use depends on your refrigerator, the temperature it is set at, and some other factors as well. However, typically, most RV owners use an average of 1.9 lbs of propane per day to run their freezers.

How does a 2-Way RV Freezer Work?

  • You will need propane or gas to power such an appliance. It uses ammonia as a coolant. A reaction between hydrogen, water, and ammonia allow the fridge to remain cool.
  • Two-way RV refrigerators are also known as absorption fridges. They make use of heat to provide the energy needed for the cooling system to work. These freezers can run on AC, or LP gas supply. This feature makes them one of the most preferred RV refrigerator options, especially for all those camping expeditions.

This came slightly dented, which I suppose could be expected when ordering a major appliance on Amazon. It also came with a bad thermocouple. I diagnosed it, talked to Smeta support, and convinced them that yes, I know you have to hold the pilot a while to light it. When we got through all that, they sent another thermocouple, I installed it, and it’s working great. The whole process took several weeks, though. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re comfortable with appliance repair.

This freezer astonished everyone on our 12 day expedition in the forest it ran 24/7 on propane. I wish I bought a larger one. I will for the next expedition.

I bought the 3.5 cubic foot model of this freezer in November of 2020. I admit to being concerned when the appliance was delivered and the box was labeled FREEZRE. British-Engrish spelling, I guess. Also, I could understand why several reviewers stated that the unit they received had dents: The carton that the freezer is in is really supported only in the corners. If the carton takes a blow in the middle of one of the side panels, there's nothing but air and one layer of cardboard separating the impactor from the exterior wall of the unit. All that said, my freezer arrived without dents and has worked perfectly since Day 1. The interior temperature stays at -10 degrees F, and there's still room on the temperature dial to go colder if needed. The compressor runs infrequently, and it's so quiet when it is running that I can barely hear it. Frost build-up has been very slight. I'm very happy with this unit.

I bought this freezer due to the fact that I live in hurricane country and wanted the option for a power source other than electric. This freezer came with the option to have 12 volt and propane as a power source. It was kind of pricey for its size and the manual said it was a refrigerator! I ordered a freezer. Regardless, I plugged it in and turned it to the highest setting for cold. I put have a bottle of water in it. In 5 days it froze. So I guess I will keep it. The water stayed frozen so I guess I consider it a freezer now lol. I am disappointed with the 12 volt setting. The manual said to use this in case of extreme emergencies, as it is not a reliable power source for this item. They should mention that in their description. All in all, it serves my purpose. I will use the propane option most likely if a hurricane hits.

This works great to keep my frozen food from spoiling during power outages! Highly recommended A+!! This same freezer is being sold as a rebranded freezer by off grid companies around the internet at extremely high markups! The price I paid here was a great bargain!
