I’m relatively new to wood shaping. Although I’ve used a pair of drawknives and several surform tools for many years (in spates of woodworking) I’ve begun to try some actual wood carving. To that end I began exploration of a whole new world of tools. I thus discovered rifflers and bought this small one. It is very well made and I’ve found it perfect for the fine shaping of surfaces. While out hiking I came across a huge, freshly cut log of pignut hickory, from which I tugged off a piece of wood dangling from a crosscut. I’m now doing the final carving of that chunk of wood into a nice firm handle for an old, antique hatchet head. The new riffler follows on the heels of the rasps and has worked perfectly-and I look to purchase different rifflers in this style for future work.

For the price of just one of these Corradi rifflers, you can purchase a couple entire sets of the cheap versions, but what a difference in quality, like night and day. They are truly superior.
