My original gasket has a smaller diameter. This one can be fitted in to the fuel tank by pushing it in harder, however, it won't let the lid close in.

I found out the hard way in a e46 you have to put this seal in the tank side first to avoid pinching it. I destroyed my original seal so I put this one in and haven't had an issue since.

My car hasn’t given me problems so far. I had to replace fuel pump and decided to replace gasket in the process. So far so good!

Worked just as it should. I suggest putting a small film of grease on inside lip of the seal so that the Fuel Level sender can be installed easier. Also, make sure you don't do the same mistake I did by putting the seal on the Level Sender itself, then trying to fit the assembly... The seal has to be mounted on the body, not on the part.

Yep. It's a rubber seal. It's rubber. It helps seal things. Works as described if you can install it correctly.
