The sensor itself works properly and is of perfectly adequate construction.The majority of hotplates use a 100-ohm three-wire RTD sensor. As far as I know, only two of the Scilogex plates use this 1000-ohm two-wire sensor (these Scilogex plates will not work with the more standard 100-ohm sensor). Pay special attention that Amazon will not accept returns.The Scilogex MS7-H550-Pro hotplate behaves erratically when used with this sensor. Multiple tests run with the external sensor and water between 80 and 100C showed the units required hours to slowly approach setpoints in a meandering pattern, unexpectedly backed off setpoints by 10-15C without warning, and occasionally stopped paying any attention to sensor readings at all. Throughout the weird behavior, the sensor temperature displayed accurately (verified against a second thermometer). My two units, with two different sensors, showed identical behavior problems. The manufacturer eventually stated this was probably the way the units were supposed to work (but wanted me to send them in for testing). My Barnstead/Thermolyne units are capable of hitting a setpoint quickly and without fuss when using an external sensor, so I'm not inclined to believe this behavior is intentional.In short, if you buy this sensor to use with an MS7-H550-Pro, they don't seem to work well together (at least, not in any of the tests I ran). You can return the hotplate, but Amazon does not accept returns of the sensor so you're stuck with it and can't use it on some other hotplate.No idea if it works well on the less expensive Scilogex hotplates; my experience is only with the MS7-H550-Pro.
