The device does exactly what I want: replace my old IDE drives with a cheap SD card. I am using as the main drive in an old pentium system with a 16GB SD card.My only complaint is that it must be used as the primary/master device on the cable. It has no ability to operate as a secondary device on the IDE ribbon. However, it DOES still work along side a device configured as a secondary device. For instance, this device and a CD-ROM on a single cable. But two of these devices on the same ribbon will NOT work.

These are great! I have used two of them already restoring some older computers. Used it on both an old 486 and Pentium II PC, and it was plug and play (just like using a regular HD). Very convenient to load files from another (modern) PC and have the ability to experiment with different operating systems - just switch the SD card. I designed and 3D printed an isa bracket for it. I mount it in an unused ISA slot so I can easily access and swap the SD card with the case closed. It's probably a little slower then a true spinning disk, but I don't notice with normal use, it's a small price for the convenience, reliability and silent operation.UPDATE: Note the drive size limit! Tried using these on a newer XP build. Worked fine and was very fast, but the max size drive it will support is 128GB! No matter the size of the SD card used. It's not the 32GB limit as listed, at least not for mine, but does seem limited to 128GB. Also Note - It seems picky with SD card types. I splurged on a fancy "extreme" 128GB SD card which wasn't even detected. I'll just stick with a decent brand middle of the road type SD now.

It's great for replacing old hard drives in legacy hardware, but no matter what SD you put in, the maximum write speed is 20MB/s, which is lower than maximum available in ATA133 for example. Considering it's meant for old computers, it shouldn't be an issue since you won't have much data to store anyway, with typical Windows 98 install taking up a few hundred megabytes and a few gigabytes for games. I've had no compatibility issues with Windows 98 or FreeDOS.

I've used these in the past for other older computers and they work great as hard drive replacements.I'm using this one in an old 486dx2 DOS/Win 3.1 machine and had no issues with the bios seeing the device.Make sure to pair it with a good, high quality SD card for best results, specially if using it on older computers.

Using it to restore an old DOS machine from 89. Makes experimenting with operating systems a snap.

I have a server that WILL NOT boot from a USB so the only option is IDE (PATA) or SATA, I want to keep the SATA for a purpose so IDE is the best option. Now SD images are easily burned using USB adapters. So this is a great device.
