We have many Securi products in our home and when my wife wanted to start grinding her own spices, I went looking for a Securi offering. This one was on sale at the time of purchase and it's met her needs well.It is a tad large, but you don't want something too small when you want to grind mass amounts of things like pepper.Great purchase from a terrific company. We recommend anything by Securi.

The grinder comes with a base that has a short cord, two grinding cups with attached blades (one for grinding, one for chopping), a cap to close the cup being use, a lid that goes over the cap and cup, and an instruction booklet. The instructions mention that the cup set up is not waterproof, so you can’t use this to make pastes or to grind ingredients with a lot of liquid in them. They mention the types of items you can grind/chop with the different cups, which I found useful. The machine can’t do ingredients that are too hard, like rice, or too wet. Also, you need to be aware of the different maximum quantities for different ingredients. The cups have embossed lines with MAX written inside, but some ingredients have larger max capacities than others. The cups twist onto the base easily. Then to operate it, put on the lid and cap, then press the cap down to grind in short pulses. Only a little pressure is needed. Both the lid and cap are clear so you can see into the cup to know if you’re done. I tested the dry container with some flax seeds, which only took a few short pulses to get a very consistent grind. For chopping container I tried almonds. It was a good consistency on top but still had some larger pieces at the bottom, so another pulse or two was needed to get the proper grind. I love how fast the machine is. It’s a little noisy, but not unreasonably so. What you’re grinding will also impact the noise level. It seems well built and will be very useful for grinding up herbs, spices, and more.

Right away I was glad to see a storage space in the base to wrap the cord when not in use, only.....that it doesn't fit the entire cord. When you wrap it perfectly tight, you still have a good 15" sticking out; and since the cord itself is remarkably stiff, it's difficult to wrap the remainder around the slippery base. Nevertheless, the grinder itself still works well. The body feels like it's made of a thin and sheer aluminum with a nice and heavy base and rubberized feet that hold well against my granite countertops. They're not suction cups like my juicer thank goodness, because those always have the tendency to tear off after only a couple months' use. As for the grinder cups, you get 2 in the set and they're both made of a brushed stainless steel with their own blades that you can't remove. Fortunately, they twist on and off of the base with ease, so you can select which one you want and just swap them out. If you've ever used a single-serve blender, the design is similar in that the base is a separate piece and the blades are permanently affixed to the grinder cups. And in truth, I prefer that design since it's so much easier to get the coffee grounds out. On my standard Krups grinder, I normally have to turn the whole thing upside-down in order to get the majority of the grounds into the lid so that I can brush them out. And I still end up having to brush the lower unit with the blade anyway because I can never get more than 60% out. Here, the grinder cup with the blade is self-contained with its own small lid; so once you're done grinding, you just take off the cap, untwist the cup from the base and brush everything out of one place. So much more convenient and even easier to clean.I suppose my only gripe with the thing after having used it a number of times is that you only get 1 small plastic lid for both grinder cups, and it's really not that durably made. Plus you absolutely must have it on when you grind anything or the grounds will go everywhere (still contained within the main cap/lid of course). Really wish they would've included a backup....as well as a brush. Yeah. It's the first grinder I've ever seen that doesn't come with one. And you can't just use any small brush. Since the cups are reasonably deep, they need to have a handle or stem well over 3" in length in order to be able to reach all the way to the bottom and underneath the blades. Not a big fan of rinsing it out with water, but it'll still need to be done from time to time.As for performance - no issues. There's only one speed of course so the only way to control the coarseness of the grounds is either by regulating the length of ON time or by swapping out the blades. In that way, it's incredibly simple to use. The activation buttons are on the rim as well, so the only way to activate the motor is by using the large main cap. At the same time, since the cups are self-contained, you unfortunately don't get a tactile feel for the size of the grounds through the lid like you do with other grinders. So timing becomes slightly more important, as well as using sound as an indicator. Speaking of, I'm glad that the motor isn't too loud and it's definitely quieter than my Krups so that's a plus.Overall though, I'd say it's a very decent grinder. The profile is a bit large, there is no full storage for the power cord and you only get one small lid and no brush; but otherwise, I think it works well. Definitely appreciate the removable cup design and there are no physical buttons on the side to accumulate dirt over time. Just be sure to carry it holding the base because the top cap/lid isn't fastened to the rest of the grinder so it's just sort of wobbles there until you remove it to access the grinder cup. Four stars overall!

I have a few Secura products that I love so when I was looking for an electric grinder for my coffee beans I jumped on this one to give it a try. First I want to say that I already have a "fancier" grinder with 16 levels of grind that you can select and you can also select the quantity of coffee cups you want to grind. The reason I'm looking to replace that grinder is that first it's very messy, each time I remove the container into which the grind falls it makes a mess. Second reason is that it's difficult to clean. This Secura grinder is a much simpler design and is a breeze to clean. Also it's not messy, no coffee falls out of the machine when you remove the cup, so no waste and no mess. It's more basic, you can't select a grind level, you have to grind for a few seconds, look at how coarse/fine it is and then keep going if you want a finer grind. This is a pulse type grinder, it works best in short bursts and you shouldn't do bursts longer than 6-8 seconds otherwise you can overheat the motor. It does a great job with coffee beans, I'm very happy. In all honesty, I've only been using it for coffee bean so I can't comment on how it performs for other spices or produce, but seeing how good it does with coffee, I'm confident it does a good job with other things. The build quality is very good, I like that the cups are stainless steel. It's easy to use, and good safety feature, it doesn't work unless the plastic cup in on top and you then press down to activate and release to stop. Like I said, for best results you should pulse on/off on/off.For coffee it's a big yes 5/5Maybe my only complaint is that I wish the cord was a bit longer
