USER MANUAL
- A drill chuck wrench MUST be used to tighten the drill chuck to give it enough torque. Tightening by hand would cause damage internally due to insufficient torque and would void the manufacture warrantyy. Shars Tool is not responsible for any damage caused by drill bit slipping out of the drill chuck.

I purchased this keyless chuck as a replacement for the original key style chuck on my bench top drill press. I could not replace the key for that one when it broke so a new chuck was the answer.It fit the Jacob's taper of the DP's spindle and, after some repair work to that spindle which is now around 35 years old, it ran as true as I expect a drill chuck to run. It is a bit longer, but keyless chucks are so that was expected. And after some initial testing it seems to grab drill bits up to 1/4" diameter OK for drilling metal, including soft steel. I am happy with it.If it has a drawback it is that the instructions that came with it state that it should be tightened with spanner style wrenches that were not included. What's the sense of a keyless (a key is just ONE tool and is always included with a key style drill chuck) chuck that requires the use of TWO spanner wrenches that are NOT even included? Duhhh. Nothing was said about this either on Amazon or on the Shars web site. It should have been. Every battery powered drill in all of my local hardware stores and home supply stores come with keyless chucks that DO NOT NEED wrenches to tighten them. Why does a professional style chuck which costs as much as many of those battery powered drills need tools that are not supplied?I will keep the chuck as it does work OK with smaller drill bits which will be the majority of what I use in this machine. But the ads should clearly state that these wrenches are needed for bits over 1/4" in diameter and that they are NOT included. And they should make a set available at a reasonable price. Now I must search for appropriate wrenches.

Just to preface this, I needed a chuck to hold some tubing to but cut vs. buying a 100 to 300 dollar tubing vise/stand.I love how this thing, hand tight on the delicate 304 SS tubing I cut, doesn't deform the walls but holds it like a gorilla for me to use my cutter on the tubing.For the price though, this has been a great buy, and a pleasure to use for my projects.

Took more than one try to properly mount into the straight collet, but works like a charm once that was dealt with.
