Background:Got this Bravia 8 M2 delivered last night. I always get Sony TVs after I retired my 65” Panasonic Z60 Plasma many years ago. They have the best picture and color combinations besides Plasma. I have 8 Sony TVs now, 85” Array X900H, 75” IPS X800H, three 48” X800H, 55” X90K, and two are 65” OLED. My first OLED XBR-65A8F is from 2018 and still working. It had the best picture but very bad retention with TV logos. We ended up moving that into the bedroom because it didn’t have AirPlay and software was getting old and buggy.Picture Quality and Brightness:My first observation with the Bravia 8M2 is that the picture is awesome and incredibly bright. It’s brighter than any OLED I’ve ever seen. Viewing angle is the best compared to full array TVs and even IPS panels. That being said, I still think the best full array TVs have an edge in brightness. The Netflix auto calibration is awesome, and so are IMAX and Dolby and Prime. Dolby Vision Bright is quite satisfying in daylight viewing conditions but too much for night viewing.Motion and Refresh Rate:I hate the soap opera effects, and one thing I noticed is that when I turn the Motion and other fake settings off, it’s still not as good as my other TVs. It’s a bit not realistic. Maybe the OLEDs are too new out of the box and they need breaking in. Will know more in a week or two.Sound Quality:Our TV is wall mounted and although I used the built in calibration sequence for room acoustics, it still is not as good as a soundbar or a 2.0 system. I switched the audio to my Marantz connected to Focal 905s. Much better sound. That being said, I am ultra sensitive to sound quality, and the TV sound is not actually that bad.Software and Apps:Very snappy software response, and all apps works perfectly. Out of the box, setup took about 20 minutes including downloads and updates.Installation and Unboxing:The box is quite heavy for a 65” class and so is the TV despite the thin and slim depth. It was very hard putting it up on the wall just by myself, and I almost broke my back. I highly recommended having a help when you unbox, and especially if you plan to wall mount it. The screws for VESA mounts are very short because of the shallow depth of the TV housing. Be careful with the screwdriver. I stripped one screw! We will deal with that when it’s time to move! For the stand mount, the stands are quite big. Keep that in mind for the TV cabinet or media center.Final Thoughts:Compared to my old OLED, the picture is 2-3 times better. Both are 65” so the size is the same. I like the motion and refresh of my old OLED better, but 8M2 may just need a break-in period. Is it worth the MSRP? Maybe, but if you can get it on sale that would be a great deal though. There’s also no larger size than 65” which may be deal breaker for some.

I needed to get a handle on the Google TV operating system before writing a review as I've not any prior experience with it, and ultimately, at least for my app usage on a smart TV, it is a giant part of how I would rate any smart TV. --but I'll get back to that. The television arrived delivered carefully, and packaged in a very protected manner. Like any 65-inch television, this is a big, heavy box. Unpacking, and reading through the instructions while looking at the accessories, it was very simple to get set up. I opted to use the legs on a TV stand, because to hang it, I would want professionals involved. I plugged into my existing surround sound system via e-arc HDMI 2.1 cable and immediately everything sounded superb. However I did test just the television's speaker, and I really felt that was impressive sound on its own for a television speaker.Back to the operating system, Google TV. For our use, we mostly use streaming apps and our own server. It took some time getting used to a new operating system but ultimately it wasn't much different than using an Android device to set up the same apps, except there's no touch screen, obviously. I would rate the different tv OS systems in the following order of ease of use: Roku, AppleTV, Google TV, Fire TV, in my humble opinion. There is good app availability for Google TV, but some of the features we are used to from Apple TV and Roku aren't there. Though, I suppose we could always just add a box if it becomes an issue.Streaming was without delay. The resolution and field of colors was really quite impressive, as so was the screen brightness. I was very happy with both the picture and sound quality for watching television and movies. It was a premium experience.I am not a big gamer, but a friend brought and X-Box X over to really test things out with. This is where the high refresh rate got a chance to shine. I don't have a keen enough eye to notice such things while watching a film. But in game, when the screen is responding to your hands, you can feel how 120Hz is superior to 60Hz in every way. Combined with the amazing brightness and color spectrum, it was obvious that this television was probably the nicest we've ever had.It is also the most expensive television we've ever had. I'm hopeful that it will last us many years. I have other Sony products that lasted many years, so I'm quite hopeful. All in all, the only negative is the Google tied in operating system, but die hard Google heads will probably love that. It is truly a subjective thing, but it just isn't my favorite. Other than that, everything about this television is amazing. This is a premium television and a really pleasant viewing experience. It looks and sounds great, which is what we all want from our TVs.
