Sony's M-450 microcassette recorder is a long-lasting voice recorder. With the required two AA batteries the recorder will last an impressive thirty hours. The Clear Voice recording system will make voices sound as crisp and clean as possible, both during record and playback. The Sony-Matic automatic recording level control is another feature that will improve the recording process; this feature ensures the correct recording level.

During playback, editors and listeners will enjoy the cue and review system. This system uses a slide control, and provides sound during fast forward and rewind, allowing for quick searches. The two-speed record/playback offers an option of recording the microcassette at either normal speed or half-normal speed. This feature ultimately gives you an extended recording opportunity.

The recorder's LED light provides up-to-minute battery life information. To help save battery and mechanical wear, the M-450 has automatic shut-off. The recorder runs on either 2 AA batteries or an optional AC adaptor. Included in the package are a microcassette and two AA batteries, making this recorder ready to use, right out of the box.

What's in the Box
Sony M-450 microcassette recorder, cassette, 2 AA batteries, ninety day warranty and user's manual.

What I received was less than satisfactory. Basically, it was junk, and I just threw it away, nothing worked. It wouldn't let you open the door to where the tape goes, and therefore you couldn't change tapes. Or if it wanted to it would gobble up tapes. The three main buttons, any one of the three would sometimes get jammed.

Ask me why I need analog recording device ; certain audio products and distributeables need to be analog and on tape . In addition - I can keep certain audio recordings off the net . So its pretty hard to hack - Got mine today . I tested it out . Seems okay , no scratches or dings I could find . It already had batteries in it and a tape . The tape had been previously recorded on - some test recording and a lecture I could not make out clearly . Also , it came wrapped in a frak load of bubble wrap ; it took me 5 minutes to release it . This IS a used item . I get that . I however would have liked to have seen it in box , with batteries not in it and with clean tape . Nevertheless , it seems to be in working order. Should work fine for my purpose.

I was so happy to find an old fashioned real tape recorder instead of the new digital type. I use to transcribe and this is the easiest to use. Very good condition

I found this Sony recorder perfect for making quick dictation notes, so much so that I constantly use it and may well purchase a second one as a backup. It is ergonomically well designed, the appropriate control buttons easily accessed, and doesn't attempt to look fancy like the Olympus models. It has a clear voice replay, with a very well designed Cue and Review Control (rather oval shaped, so you don't accidentally hit any wrong buttons), the record button is prominently red and the microphone silver, so it's hard to make any mistakes in recording or accidentally erasing information. Similarly, the Pause control reveals a red spot when activated, so you don't have to guess if the machine is actually on pause or not. An unexpected feature is the stereo sound when you plug in a pair of earphones: unlike your standard tape recorder that will only provide sound through one phone in a headset, this recorder feeds sounds to both sides of a headphone. As the manufacturer description indicates, it has two speeds to extend cassette length. If you want a personal dictation recorder that is as small as can be expected, is inconspicuous and literally compact, then this is a wise and economical purchase.
