Started making a noise within the last couple weeks and the crank arm bolt stripped and gave out.edit: I wanted to edit the review. The reason the crank failed was due to a faulty installation of the bottom bracket. I used spacers where I shouldn't have on the bottom bracket which eventually led to crank failure. My local bike shop is replacing with identical cranks and they have removed the spacers and tightened my bottom bracket. This is the first bike I have built, so live and learn.

Thought I’d give this a try thinking the people that left bad reviews probably didn’t install it right, Nope, it’s just a bad design. Broke on the first ride, didn’t even make it a mile.

These look good but that is all they have going for them. There is no way to set the bearing preload and lock it in with this crankset. This will lead to a failure of the bearings, the tapered spline interface or both. And other reviews show this as true. The $50 chinese crankset I had on my mtb was a better design than this. 0/5 stars, SRAM engineered this for profit margin and not as an actual quality part. Please don't waste your time.

Excellent crankset, good chain retention, been riding it for a few years. Quality is not what separates apex from rival etc, just weight

Yeah it is just really bad. Spend the extra money to get the rival or Force.

I was looking for a larger chainring for my 1x11 hybrid/commuter/gravel bike because the 38T it came with didn't give me the gearing I needed for our terrain (mostly flat). I looked at replacing just the ring, but after a little research I came to understand the benefits of a GXP bottom bracket over a standard square taper and bit the bullet on this crankset (plus $25 for the BB).After getting the new BB and crankset on, I was blown away by how much stiffer the bike felt as I pedaled. Compared to the creaky old things I was used to riding, the bike suddenly felt like it could actually be ridden. At first I thought this was an incredible upgrade for the money.Within two weeks one of my pedals stripped out of the crank arm, ruining the threads. Of course crank arm threads are not covered by SRAM's warrantee, so I'm trying to figure out if I can even replace just the left arm or if I need to start from scratch. Hopefully this was not $100 down the drain. Before I made this purchase, my gut told me to spend a little more on the Rival crankset and I really wish I had listened. I went for the low hanging fruit and got a lemon.
