The fan definitely was not powerful enough to replace the existing older fan. It started making noise after about 6 months, then completely failed at just over a year.

A family member's Kenmore refrigerator from 1980 started making a high pitched grinding noise in the freezer. I determined it was the fan. Sprayed it with some lubricant over the period of a month and it stopped making noise. But yesterday it decided to give up. Luckily I had ordered this replacement motor. The hardest part was getting the freezer tray and the back panel off. Not as easy as the newer models these days. The bottom plastic freezer tray had to be bent and coaxed out ever so carefully as not to crack it. When I finally got the panels out it was a snap refitting the new motor. Two small bolts held it to the back of the freezer. Once that was free I popped two small wires off the old motor. I had to use a needle nose pliers as they would not come off by using my fingers. The entire assembly was held together by another two small bolts. I was able to slip the motor out of the three rubber retaining bushings. The little arms bolted to the motor fits into each bushing. It keeps it stable in the assembly. Put the new motor into the three rubber retaining bushings and bolted the the assembly back together. Then reattached the two wires and bolted the assembly back onto the back of the freezer. The hardest part was refitting the panels back into place. Took several tries to get the back panel on with the rubber gaskets popping off. And then reseating the freezer tray. But once they were back and screwed in we were in business. Note. Always unplug the refrigerator before working on it. And take pictures of everything prior to taking it all apart. Makes things much easier when you can look how something was attached or what goes back where. We'll see if this aftermarket motor lasts like the OEM original.

The actual fan is not the same size as the original. Ordered in June , just installed and found that the new blade diameter is nearly .250 inches smaller, allowing for reduced air movement in the direction of flow due to turbulence resulting from blade to housing clearance being excessive.Update: after 24 hours, the fan is making noise,. Two and a half hours of disassembly and reassembly, I will have to do it again. Very disappointing.

Installed this in an old Kenmore ColdSpot that the fan went out on. My parents were ready to go spend $800 for a new refrigerator which I am sure would be far less quality than their old Kenmore. Took about 5 minutes to install and works like a charm.
