Purchased this to (troubleshoot) T/S problem with land line connection. After disconnecting house phone found that this test set actually helped reset line connection coming into house at distribution box installed on outside of house where lightening arrestor ground rod wire is attached. After connecting a working phone via test set, this establish a dial tone & was able to further T/S problem. Problem was T/S to house wiring that was shorted somehow causing phone connection to be disconnected by phone company computer since, phone fault was detected in house.

I've used it a few times to debug damaged phone lines. It works fine. I will say it's cheap, but unless you use it every week who cares? If you are going to use something like this a lot - invest in a real one for another $100. For me this thing is fine - I hope (...this thing doesn't turn into a second career).

It's really all you need to test POTS lines. Just fair warning tho. If you have big hands you're going to need a pen or something to dial with. It's small.

Ive been working low voltage gigs the past several years and never needed a buttsett for a POTS system because of VOIP but this thing came in handy. I used it to fix an issue at a dental clinic. Easily identified the phones lines to help in resolving their phone issues. They are affordable so I would buy an extra one to put in my other bag just in case something happens to this one. Not sure about durability but I would be scared to drop it from a height or step on it.

Good bit of kit, a little on the flimsy side and operating instructions not that clear. However does the job well enough.
