This drum is not only beautiful. The tomes are awesome and sound great. If you want a great playing drum that is easy to play. This is the one for you. I have 2 other drums and I am happy to say that they all sound great. I love playing my Djeme drums.

Product is kinda hurtful having it sit between your legs makes you not wanna play it. I assume it’s the ropes that make it difficult. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Don’t waste your money or time on this drum in my thoughts. Even came with a Cali warning saying it causes reproductive harm...

I just wanted something small to start with. You can't beat the price! The size obviously effects the tone, making it a higher pitch but it still sounds and looks great. There were no signs of wear or any blemishes and it was packed very well. The shipping was extremely fast! I received my djembe three days after ordering!

I can see that I am not the only one who has made this same complaint. Djembe head promised to be 9.8" is actually it's 7". The product says the 17 x 9.8 x 9.8, but really is only 15 x 7 x 7. There was 3 black blemish marks on the top of the drum. And it is tan and black thick stripped. Like what is in this picture... but that is not the picture showing on the ad I purchased it from. It was suppose to be all tan. It is nothing at all like what was advertised. When it came I didn't open it... I just wrapped it and gave it as a gift - but when it was opened at the party, I saw it was not what I ordered. I feel upset, because I gifted something that was not what I promised I would be giving them... and upset that this ad was very misleading.

This drum was a good deal for the money, but it's not perfect. Part of the skin is very thin, which makes me worry about breaking it. I don't think re-skinning this drum would be easy at all, so you might want to get a drum from a different manufacturer, not KMC Music Inc. Overall I'm happy with it, but wouldn't have bought had I known part of the skin would be so thin.

The playing surface was smaller than expected. They listed 9 inches but the surface to play on is more like 7. There was a blemish on the head but I did not want to hassle a return. Otherwise it plays well for a travel drum. It's a great size.

The effective size of the drum head is a little over 6". Small head hand drums are often a little harder to get a satisfying boom from, but, with good technique and little practice this drum delivers. Finger snaps on the rim produces a sharp, clear sound. The drum body is mahogany and nicely hand carved. The cord lacing for the head tensioning bands creates a very pleasing pattern around the top of the drum.The drum head is goat skin and mine has some natural variation on the surface - good - not a plastic product.
