Based on my searching of different dive forums it appears that Trilobites are used by a lot of divers as an essential piece of their kit. I have about 80 dives under my belt over about 6 years and am only now starting to assemble my own gear. All of my dives so far have been with a dive master and a group of recreational divers (typical warm-water vacation diving) and that is mainly the sort of diving I expect to do in the future. As I was researching what other people use in their kit, many people said a cutting device/knife was essential for those "just in case" scenarios so I wanted to get something that would make sense for the kind of diving I do.The Trilobite seemed to fit that bill. It is small, seems like it would be hard to break or accidental cut yourself, and not very expensive. I would imagine the most likely scenario for my style of diving would be to cut fishing line if I accidentally got tangled or was just trying to clean up garbage.Be careful when you order to ensure you get the right mounting style as I ended up with the wrist mount sheath which is not what I thought I wanted. However, after getting it, and thinking about it, I decided to keep it. Honestly it does not work well around the strap of my dive computer (Suunto Zoop). My wrist is too small and there just isn't room for it to fit comfortably. What I did was purchase a NATO strap to put on my other wrist and this setup seems to work really well. It's comfortable and secure and hopefully it will be unobtrusive while diving.Just to be clear, I have not worn this diving yet and, thus, have never had to use it. I may update this review after a few dives but, honestly and hopefully, I'll never have to use it!

I never go snorkeling or freediving without this, people drown when they get tangled in old fishing or anchor lines, and a knife is not the easiest thing to use underwater, this tool is sharp and will cut any rope you can get inside it, very easy to use and I highly recommend this as a standard piece of safety gear for anyone who boats, dives, or swims in open water.

Incredibly safe and yet effective cutter for lines and rope. I dive with one on the wrist and one on my waist but haven't needed to use either while diving. I feel confident that these will definitely help should I ever get tangled.
