We played this game with a 10 year old and a 7 year old. The game was pretty fun, and it involved a good amount of instincts and reaction. You do need to concentrate to win the game, which is a nice teaching moment for our kids. I didn't feel like it had a lot of replay value, but it's a good quick game.

Hands Up! is a very fun game for 2-6 players. When I first found the game and saw the video, it reminded me of the game SET, which is a game we love, but with some additional factors. There are two game modes: lights off or lights on.Lights off mode is perfect for if you’re playing with younger players or someone who is colorblind. In lights off mode, color doesn’t matter. You still need one gem card, one fingerprint card, and one thief card in all the same number or all three different numbers (1-3) - but the color doesn’t have to be all the same or all different like in lights on mode.Lights on mode is a little more challenging. There are 3-4 lights off cards that can turn up, and when one turns up, the lights are off until someone stops a thief attempt and takes the lights off card as a bonus with their match (thief card, gem card, fingerprint card). There are also 3 cards, one in each color, that are a fully colored card with thieves on it that says “Rec” on it. When one of these is out there, you can match that with any thief card in that same color, no matter whether it has 1 thief, 2 thieves, or 3 thieves on that card.Game play: divide the cards face down evenly between players after shuffling them. Everyone says “hands up!” and puts one card into the center of the table surrounding the diamond. (If there are only two players, they both put out two cards right away.) If someone spots a match, they grab the diamond and have 5 seconds - 3 seconds in our house - to point to the three cards that create a match. If they’re correct, they get the cards. If they’re incorrect, they lose two cards they’ve collected. Regardless, they must immediately drop the diamond on the off chance there’s a second match on the table at the same time, and give the other players a chance to grab the diamond and get their match.Overall it’s super fun, and I’ve played a LOT of games in my life.

I played this game with my ten year old son - just the two of us. It was overly easy for him once he got the hang of it, so I think the game is best suited for ages 5-9. But there are ways to make the game harder. I'm a pediatric occupational therapist and I think this game would be GREAT for therapy groups with school age children or anyone who needs to work on visual scanning -- and its a very simple game so a therapist could also come up with ways to use it for other therapy goals.

Since many reviews for this FlexiQ "WHAT DO YOU MEME?" "Hands Up" Quick-Thinking Card Game describe the rules in detail, I see no reason to outline them again within this review, so I will keep this about the overall experience. The rules are easy to follow, and are outlined in good detail, leaving no loopholes or gaps that might otherwise be exploited or make play confusing. Sessions are relatively short, which helps little attention spans remain interested. It's important to encourage all players to exclaim "Hands Up!" during each round, because it makes the game more engaging and keeps little minds interested and focused. The five-second rule, too, is an important part of keeping the game flowing smoothly and rapidly, while also maximizing its ability to sharpen the perceptions of young minds. This doesn't seem to be the type of game that keeps those who have played it clamoring for more play time. On the contrary, even with a concerted effort to keep it exciting, interest wanes rapidly, and the box soon ends up sitting on a shelf, untouched and unenjoyed. This is the main reason that I am awarding just three stars for this product, because it simply lacks enough thrill to maintain its own longevity.Another annoyance that factored strongly into my 3-star rating is the size of the box versus what is actually inside. Let's be real here, it's a deck of cards and a gem. Why does the box need to be the size of a red sun, comparatively? The game could easily fit in a very small container, which would make it much more ideal for travelling where little minds in cars can play among themselves. If this were the case (pun intended), I would have strongly considered adding a fourth star to the rating.Overall this is a decent game, but it's just "meh" -- pretty average. Expect it to end up sitting somewhere, unused, after the initial thrill wears off.Weakly Recommended..

We picked this up for family game nights and we probably let someone with younger kids try it. Teens and adults may find it fun for a couple runs, just as a novel new game. It was quick to figure out the rules, the rule book was clear and easy to understand. It might take a little extra time with young kids to reinforce the rules. For our older, and more experienced game players, it was fun a few times, games moved quickly, and folks laughed. But, we moved on to more complicated games after a few rounds and it hasn't been requested to play again.I think the concept, the artwork, the gemstone etc all work as a kid's game and definitely as an icebreaker game to help put guests in the gaming mood.
