This product arrived earlier than expected. Packaging had a great presentation and felt like it contained a premium product. Price points a little high for what I normally buy, but with the second mount it seems worth it. I happen to be paraplegic and it’s great having one mount clamp to my wheelchair and then I have the second one on my desk or nightstand. I did end up with a problem in the company really stayed behind the product and really took care of me. So far I’ve had it for three months and I’m extremely happy with how everything is working out. Like anything that’s adjustable. It might start to loosen up. I’m so happy with it. I’m looking into some of twelveSouth’s other products.

Not too sure about the negative reviews using this stand with a iPad 12.9. I’m mounting my iPad with a thin TPU case and it fits nice and tight and still with a little extra room if you should have a little thicker case. Set up tool about 2 minutes and I didn’t have to tighten any of the joints with the included hex wrenches. No drooping at all, my iPad stays in place no matter what position I use, landscape or portrait. I’m typing this review on the stand and there is very, very little shaking. Just a great beautiful stand and I recommend it for whatever iPad you may have.

There’s a significant design and. OST difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2 of this product. Gen 2 has a quick change clamp while Gen 1 needs an Allen key to swap over. These were very explicitly marketed as Gen 2 and were not. By the looks of things someone else had also been tried with this scheme and, like me, returned this misrepresented purchase. A waste of my time and of postage delivery. Only plus side is Amazon is great about returns.

I use the Hover Bar so I can use my iPad as a second screen for my Mac. It’s particularly nice when I attend seminars — I can move the seminar screen onto the iPad and continue working on my main screen. I do wish Apple let SideCar be used in portrait mode, though. For this usage scenario, the HoverBar is perfect. I see on their web site that they say you could use it while directly interacting with the iPad, such as for drawing or typing. I’m not convinced this would work well. The iPad jiggles a bit when attached to such a long mounting arm due to physics. Unless you have a non-adjustable arm, you are going to get some jiggle.I saw some reviews saying that their iPad sags. You have to tighten the right screws so it won’t sag. The screw in question is the one in the back of the arm. If you tighten that, there’s no sag.The iPad is held securely… I have absolutely no worries that it will fall out. I keep my iPad in a case that has a permanently attached cover. The HoverBar has no problems with the extra thickness. What I would love to see with the HoverBar is a magnetic plate option — newer iPad Pros and iPad Airs have magnets on the back, and there are competing products (but shorter height) that permit the iPad to magnetically attach to the mounting plate for easy removal. Aesthetically they look much nicer than the HoverBar’s “sides” between which you insert your iPad.The base has a plastic exterior, but it doesn’t look cheap. That said, it really should be metal at this price point. The inside of the base is metal, so the base has decent heft and weight, and there’s never a worry that the iPad will topple over.Overall, a good buy. There are some cheaper options available — some of which look quite nice — but I indeed up going with this one because Twelve South is known to make good stuff, and I didn’t want to be in a situation where I had to return it.

The hoverbar has two mounts, a clamp and a weighted platform. The weighted platform cannot support an iPad positioned over the base without tipping over. The clamp doesn't allow the stand to tip over but if you're planning on periodically moving this around your desk, or from room to room, the clamp isn't practical. But if this where only a stand for iphones this stand would still be an abject failure for Twelve South.1. The three adjustment screws require hex wrenches? they could have molded knobs onto the fasteners like they did with ball joint at the end of the arm. Who wants to dig up a hex wrench every time they want to adjust their screen? Also why two DIFFERENT sizes requiring two different wrenches?2. The set screws and the one knob on the joint appear to be mis-sized. It requires a LOT of force to stop the joints from moving when mounting your devices. Or maybe they need to improve the friction between the set screw and rotating part? Either way, I'm concerned at some point the 2-4mm set screws will strip.3. Even when applying near screw stripping force, it's not enough. The next day my tablet is laying almost face down on my desk after having the joints slowly yield to gravity. In summation, the base isn't heavy enough to support a 9.7" ipad in any position save directly over the base. With my last base, I was constantly moving it around my desk and adjusting it's height and angle as the sun moved and this base requires I keep two hex wrenches at the ready. 1/5 stars.

[Note: used with iPad MINI 6]I am really glad I went with this stand, but I am also glad I decided to buy it on sale from Amazon rather than directly from Apple. I needed something that would easily let me position the iPad at all kinds of angles. I am in a long distance relationship, so this is incredibly useful for video calls. I can easily position it on the side of my nightstand to make it feel like my partner is falling asleep right next to me.I'm not sure if this is just an issue with my stand, but you are supposed to be able to tighten the screws on the arms for desired stiffness. I cannot tighten the first hinge anymore, but it is still drooping when the iPad being held closer to the base. Of course this is a more difficult position to hold with strength as the arm is also extended forward, so this might just be its limit.I'll also say that the apple pencil holder is kind of pointless since the magnet is not very strong. I wish it was all flat on the base instead. Even then, they could put a stronger magnet to hold the flat back of the pencil in place. I suppose if you use a different stylus it might be helpful, but it's still not deep enough to hold anything firmly in place.

I knew it wouldn't be perfect when I bought it, but it is better than I thought it would be.1. Hard to get the 12.9 iPad into the holder, and the holder blocks the pencil charger.2. I would like the joint circled in the picture to go a little wider.Otherwise, I am happy with the purchase.
