I hate Zinsco panels. Inspectors will not even assess them. To replace my panel, a 480v 400amp, the electricians want 10000.00 dollars. When I bought the house the inspectors never looked in the box. There is no main cutoff and the only way to shut down the panel is to pull the meter face! When they installed my solar, I have no idea how it passed permits. My only temporary solution is to install 2 200amp panels both with main breakers. They should outlaw Zinsco panels on homes. The breakers sit on a Zinsco Buzz bar and constantly burn up. The breakers are like small blasting caps. This breaker is nice. It was installed by the solar company with di-electric grease to hide the arcing.

I just pulled the single 60 Amp breaker out of a small bubble mailing bag, no retail fancy packaging which is just fine by me. It appears to be new and undamaged. I have not installed it yet, but it appears to currently be in the tripped position. I'm not sure if that is normal or not for new breakers, but hopefully it will work as expected. I will be installing this for my 1999 Trane 2.5 ton / 5 ton Dual Compressor Trane XL1800 AC Condenser. For some reason, the original installer had it connected to a 40A breaker, but the plate on the AC Condenser clearly states Min/Max Breaker Required of 60 Amps. The unit pulls the exact current listed on the plate when the 5 ton compressor starts, so it's not exceeding the 147 Amp LRA Rating. I already replaced all the Caps, Hard Start Relay and Contactors. It only pops the old 40 Amp breaker when switching from the 2.5 ton compressor to the 5 ton compressor. If I start it with high demand from the thermostat, the 5 Ton compressor will start right up and run just fine. The wiring going into the house from the disconnect to the breaker panel is really thick ( I could not find a wire size written on it because its in a black rubber jacket), but it's almost twice as thick copper wire as the units 10 gauge Mains it's connecting to inside of the AC Condenser with wire nuts. I think the max current draw listed on the plate was 38 Amps, but the most I have measured when running the unit on the 5 ton compressor with the fan running at full speed is under 20 Amps. I'm thinking that the initial surge current is just pushing this little 40 breaker to the edge every time the big compressor kicks in and it finally gave up the ghost. The price was reasonable and the breaker arrived in a reasonable time, and in good shape.

This circuit breaker is a perfect replacement for the Zinsco brand which is not made any more. This is the second one I’ve bought and they fit just like the originals.

Make damn sure you seat the wire in this main breaker. Break the 2 nuts loose first, seat it then wire it in. Pull the meter from outside so you dont kill yourself first, though. I went through 3 of these before realized I was chasing my own tail.
