The installation was to mfg requirements. The error code remained even after several reinstalls. I feel this particular unit is faulty and I am hoping the seller will take the time to ship me another unit to replace the first.

Amazon said that this part would not fit my Passat with auomatic temperature control, but it fit just fine and fixed the problem. It looks slightly different than the OEM part (the original was black and had a slightly longer shaft), but the part number is an exact match for the old one and it plugs right in and fits securely in the slot in the duct. The Climatronic unit no longer thinks the duct temperature is -45 degrees, so the AC works just fine now. VW wants about $50 for the OEM apart, so this one was a good deal.

2002 Passat with Climatronic. Diagnostics showed the fresh air inlet temp sensor had problems so I bought this. Easy replacement if you take out the glove box and the cowl under the hood. Now I don't get hot air randomly blowing at me mid-summer because the new sensor fixed the problem!

It was a bit of a mission to replace the cabin temp sensor but if you can get to it, this replacement part works like a charm. My 2001 A4 B5 Quattro Wagon could read the temperature immediately and turned the AC back on. Hallelujah.

All I can said is, this sensor works. No more temperature acting up and change reading to 22F Degree in the Summer. If your car has a temperature that acts sporadic, this is the guy. It is install behind glove box compartment. Hope this review helps you in getting your car AC fix.If you have any question, please feel free to ask, I will try to answer and help you the best I can. Good luck, and keep that car running by changing every 5k.

Not much to say about this thing. It's a direct fit and works.I installed it a couple weeks ago after I did a HVAC code scan and had a code for G89 sensor error. I erased the error and did a rescan on several occasions and it was very consistent. As soon as I installed this, the code never came back and the in-dash display has shown the correct temp without fluctuating as it had for the past couple months.Time will tell how it is for durability, but so far I'm happy.Update: it's 9 months later and still working exactly as it should.Btw, when I installed it, I did the easiest method I could imagine. Since it's located underneath the in cabin air filter and would never be seen by anyone, I took a knife and cut a slit into the plastic above it. Then broke the old one in half, making it easier to remove. Then just plugged the harness onto the new one and popped it into the holder. I taped the plastic back together just to make it look neat again. After dropping the filter back in you basically can't tell what I did. Total install time was about 5 minutes.
