1.There are several reasons one would want to control their telescope with a PC:
2.It is faster than using the hand controller.
3.It gives you a visual aid when searching for something hard to find.
4.If you find something unknown, the planetarium software will be able to identify it.
5.It is a necessity if you plan on imaging anything for longer than a single quick exposure.
It's wicked cool.

Got this to breath new life into my LX200. There isn't a 9 pin serial port on many pc's these days so I had to find a solution. Firmware update, and perhaps auto guide the scope. (haven't tried that yet) It worked great, but don't forget to go get the software driver for it. I thought I had read plug-n-play someplace but that must have been something else. I was a bit frustrated until I came back to the listing and saw the words & link to the driver software. After words, the PC talked to the scope again and Ill be up and running very soon.

Using this cable to control my 20 year old Meade 10" LX200GPS. The legacy drivers from Silabs worked perfectly with my aging Windows 8.1 laptop. Newer drivers are available for newer Windows machines. The driver assigned the cable to COM3 and I was able to adjust my planetarium software to match and was immediately able to remotely control the scope. I'm back into the astrophotography business after 19 years. Yahoo!
