What is this thing? It certainly does not do what it says it does. I tried using it on 3 different inline fans all getting the same result. Nothing. Low power. Nothing. High power. Nothing. Medium? You guessed it. Terrible product

This fan controller is about the same as most others I have seen. They are cheaply made out of plastic and have a plastic knob. It its one 120v plug and controls inline fans for my purpose. I like to slow the air down going through lights, filters, and to quiet the air noise down. This speed controller works for most standard inline fans. It may not work on a CanFan Max. Those seem to make a weird humming or binding noise and do not function with this style controller. This is cheap way to control your environment without spending a lot of money. Hopefully this last for a while. Each of my greenhouse gardens has about 12 fans installed in them.

My built-it variable speed control stopped working on our inline exhaust fan, so this seemed like a potential solution that would let me use the materials I had on hand for a repair. And a solution it is. I was able to rewire the fan using half of an old extension cord, and then just plugged the cord into this control box. Works like a charm! The result is not nearly as fluid as the old speed controller, but it gets the job done nonetheless.

WHile this is to be used in my work restoring vintage fans, it should be usable on many other projects. Or will it? It does control the output voltage and speed of my fans, but the power drops off so quickly that the fan drops from full power to almost stopped before the control even reached the end of the "full" portion of the scale. It comes in an unlabeled box which includes the device and an instruction sheet. The device is well made and plugs directly into a wall plug outlet and you can dial the desired speed with a knob on the front of the device. The plug is 3 wire grounded and polarity designed. After operation I did not experience excess heat build up.I like the device but can only really use it up on the top speed area for the needs that I have.

This controller is a good deal for the price. It seems to cut off more quickly than I would like, but it works. I've been using it to control a fan in my greenhouse and it's worked well for that application.

I am using this to control my kitchen fan which is quite powerful but can be noisy. By using this, im able to lower the power and therefor noise. Works well and is inexpensive.

I picked up a 120mm AC-powered fan to cool down a furniture cabinet full of home networking equipment in my office. It worked, but was noisier than I would have liked. This can controller works perfectly with it to cut the airflow and noise down to a level that is still enough to keep everything much cooler, but doesn't result in any real difference to the noise level in the room.
