Amplifies sound really well. I can hear cars driving down the road 50 yards away. I can hear footsteps from neighbors approaching asking why I am crawling around the ground with earphones. Oh by the way throw the little ear phones in the trash immediately. Get real over ear headphones probably noise cancelling headphones. Coil pickup works. I could not get much from metal probe. Heard a lot of stuff in the ground, but not broken water pipe. Picks up cars, jets, music from down the road. Dug a lot of dry holes in the yard. I found the water leak by tracing back from a known location of water pipe and a lot of digging.

Poor quality materials and all included microphones do not pick up any sound.Save your money and hire a local leak detection company instead.

It has very good quality sound . I have found several leaks under ground with this tool . Leaks on fire hydrants, water mains, and on water meter services. Will definitely without a doubt buy another one as soon as this one wears out.

Does not work as advertised!!! This is not work for underground leak detection as stated in the description...can not return bc I didnt get a chance to test it until the end of the return window...DO NOT BUY!!! TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!!

We had one leak found after 2 visits from different professional leak finders at a cost of $600. Fixed that leak ourselves, only to figure out there was a 2nd leak, so we decided to get this leak detector to see if it worked. Now, the pipes to the pool are buried under brick pavers and maybe 8 inches of cement. My husband was on his hands and knees using the stethoscope and heard nothing, even after plugging all but one of the valves (?) in the pool. We also used an air compressor to blow air into the one open valve - still nothing. Looks like it may be time for another professional leak detector. To be fair, our PVC pipes and pool are about 50 years old and I don't know how even a professional would know there was more than one leak.

Microphone picked up every blade of grass it hit with am explosive sound. Didn’t find my leak though. Still, it might work for other people. At least the price wasn’t bad.
