Does what it's supposed to, but the safety plate gets caught on the tool if you push it too far down. Good puncturing, meat tenderized beautifully. Just maintain control over how much force you use when pushing it down.

This stainless steel meat tenderizer is pretty solid feeling. Because it's stainless steel and not plastic I think its has a bit of weight to it, making it feel quite durable. A spring-loaded safety plate surrounds the 24 very long and sharp tenderizing prongs that look like huge nails. When you push down it compresses the safety plate up towards the top of the tenderizer and exposes all the sharp spears. When you lift the meat tenderizer up and away from whatever you'r using it on the spring-loaded safety plate drops back down and encloses around the tips of the tenderizer prongs again. I don't use it for tenderizing meat, instead I've set it aside specifically for non meat baking chores such as poking holes in my homemade unleavened bread, pizza crusts, and pie crusts. I've also used it to perforate potatoes before baking them. With so many prongs it pretty effective and much faster than using a fork. However, cleaning can be a bit tricky, especially around the holes in the prongs. I usually soak it in hot, soapy water and rinse it well, but it still takes some effort to clean thoroughly.

I really like this meat tenderizer. First of all other tenderizers have been bulky and harder to store. I like how this has a stick handle and you can safely just push down. It's made of stainless steel and has 24 protected sharp needles that are covered by a spring loaded baffle that'll only expose the needles when you press down on an object and then will be covered after you lift. The 24 needles are extremely sharp so must handle with care. I like the hanging hole for organized cooks but it's thin enough to stick in a drawer. The first couple of uses seems like at times I had to push the spring loaded plate down after pressing down on some meat, but after several uses it started working more smoothly. It also depends on the angle in which you're pressing against the meat. Depending on what you're poking/tenderizing, you may need to scrub around the tips of the needles in which case you have to be very careful, but it's dishwasher safe. I love to use this to poke a bunch of holes in my pork belly skin so I can get the chicharron crunch when smoking pork belly. Or to help tenderize meat and chicken if I'm marinating so it'll allow the marinade to penetrate into the meat more easily when brining. All in all, solid tenderizer tool to have and compact.
