Half of the benefit to the waterproof side zipper functionality is "tie once" ... you use the zipper to enter and exit the boot, making it faster. These boots need a slight reorientation of the zipper position, and making it slightly longer, to make donning the boot possible with the zipper.Additionally, I ordered regular width, and it's quite possibly the narrowest 'foot-last' boot I've ever had. I should probably have ordered extra wide, for my very normal width foot.

The boots are good. The leather sums a little soft for a durable, long lasting work boot. And it needs a back strap loop to help pull the Boot on.Especially with the zipper. So you do have to untie and tie .

I've worn the Bates Tactical boots for years. But this newer version sucks.. definitely not water proof at all. In fact I will wear these and no matter what my feet will end up soaked. They changed the sizing up so I had to figure out my new size and they just feel way tighter than they should. I hate them.

Just got them yesterday. Fast shipping.Item as described. They fit good, 10.5R is 10.5R.Not sure I like the mid lace-lock feature. It's hard enough getting your foot out without unlacing the top, which is the point of side zip, imo.If they wear like my other Bates boots, you shouldn't have issues there.

Very comfortable boots. Last a long time. Last pair was over two years ago and still good. Very light weight. On my 5th pair.

I’ve worn bates boots for years! They are unquestionably the most rugged, durable and comfortable duty boot You could buy! Strongly recommend them for responders!

Bought these for my son, he loves them, wears them daily to work and is on his feet working 9 hours a day. They are a rugged boot and comfortable on your feet. Highly recommended, went to other shoe stores for pricing and actually better priced on Amazon. Exactly same boot.

I bought these boots for every day wear and well I can’t regret it. I was hesitant about buying them because of the reviews. These are good boots and because my feet are skinny they fit pretty well. If you wear converse or shoes similar then these boots would fit you perfectly. The problems? One is the zipper. They are abit hard to unzip but with some Vaseline they zip perfectly. So it easily can be worked around for that problem. The waterproofing is limited. Not fully waterproof. If you want to make it fully waterproof. Spray it with some protective coating so it can keep your feet dry while in the water. Only downside of doing that is breathability. My last one would be comfort but they are really comfortable. If your on your feet all day they are okay as long as your moving around. If your standing in one spot for hours without taking a step then you will feel abit uncomfortable but not painful. So make sure you are doing something other than standing still. I’m on my feet for 8 to 12 hours depending on what I’m doing in or after work. So for 4 hours and maybe an hour of doing nothing but standing in place is pretty good.my last suggestion for people with abit wider fee would be to get thinner socks or breathable socks. Ankle high or higher.

Light, comfortable, and waterproof which is great for the environment I work in. They look great with my uniform. I just wish they were easier to get on. I figured with the side zipper it would be but I still have to undo the laces to get my feet into them which doesn’t help if I have to respond quickly.

My previous tactical boots were also Bates that are around 8 years old so I decided it was time for an upgrade. These newest iteration of Tactical Sport 2 boots seem decent and offer good support. The fact that these are waterproof and offer a composite toe and are lightweight was the reason I got them. The downside to these being waterproof is that these are near impossible to get on and off using the side zip as they don't open wide enough to get your foot in and out easily. They have a fabric on the inside connecting both sides of the boot behind the zipper to keep them waterproof. The fabric is thick and narrow compared to other waterproof tactical boots and prevents them from opening more than a couple inches apart at the top while the bottom barely opens up.This boot is also not as tall on the inside where the composite toe cap is compared to my previous Bates even though both are identical sizes so there's less room for my toes. These boots are also not for cold weather at all. All the padding in the boot that feels like insulation is not insulation at all. My toes feel frozen in 0°C weather.Update: stitching at the Achilles tendon on both boots have failed and busted in less than 10months. Not impressed.
