I had a friend over and we tried this personal fondue mug with chocolate for a quick dessert. I later tried a cheese version for a simple lunch. Overall, I can say that though there are some flaws to this design, this ultimately serves as a convenient and fun way to get a fondue fix.My past experience with fondue has been more miss than hit. I was gifted a full fondue set years and years ago that sat in a closet before I finally tried it out once (with the same fondue-loving friend) before ultimately regifting the set to his family. There's a certain novelty to the idea of fondue, but the effort and costs were not ultimately worth the results to me. My one time in Switzerland I had a single fondue meal, and that similarly left me somewhat unsatisfied with the concept, seeming quite a production for something that came across more as a novelty than a gourmet experience. So all that said, I wasn't completely optimistic about a personal fondue mug that on the surface level absolutely appeared to be a novelty, though I still thought it would be fun to try with that same fondue-appreciating friend. I decided to do some melted dark chocolate served with marshmallows, shortbread, and strawberries. This was extremely easy to put together, and we were both very happy with the results.I've seen in other reviews comments about the candles not fitting. I used a standard tea light, which fit with no problem whatsoever. It did not take that long to melt the chocolate, and I stirred it regularly to prevent burning. Obviously, there is no way to adjust the heat level in a setup like this, so you have to watch what you are doing and be careful. When everything is melted, it seemed a good idea to blow out the candle until needed again. Even with that, the chocolate at the bottom of the bowl was quite hot, and both of our mouths got a little burned when we were not careful. When I tried this set on my own with a cheese fondue and flatbread and pretzel chips, it was similar in results. Without being able to regulate the heat, how long it takes to melt will depend on what you are melting, and it can get overly hot at the bottom if you are not careful. But I don't really consider this a problem considering the point is that you are melting smaller amounts relatively quickly. It really is a fast way to get fondue results in small personal amounts.Along with the inability to regulate the heat, there are a couple other negatives. The bowl portion of the mug does get very hot while cooking, so you definitely do not want to touch it. The handle stays cool, though, so it is just a matter of being careful.Ideally, the set would have come with at least two fondue forks instead of one. Even though it is marketed as a personal mug, it easily serves two people and there would be no reason to have separate mugs. Also, even though this is nitpicking, it annoys me that there is just a simple hole in the handle for holding the fork, but since it is longer than the handle it has to fit awkwardly over one side. It would have been better if there was a dedicated fork holder (for two forks) built into the side of the mug, separate from the handle. And this is a really minor point, but it does seem like a product like this is tailor-made for gift giving, so having an actual box as opposed to being shipped in generic packaging would have made a lot more sense. Obviously, this doesn't really matter in the big picture, but it would have been nice. But despite these minor negatives, this mug surprised me in that it really came across as more than just a simple novelty. I've previously been unimpressed with fondue, but it seems that having a simple, quick setup like this really makes for a way to easily enjoy some comfort food as a dessert, snack or lunch. It doesn't really hold the same pretention I've always felt goes with fondue, maybe because it is not some big production but a quick fix.A couple of final thoughts. One, this is pretty easy to clean. You do want to wipe the bowl out while the contents are still a bit warm so they don't solidify on the mug. But it's easy enough to light the candle for a minute if that happens. Second, even though this is marketed as a chocolate fondue set, it really does seem to work with cheese as well, making it much more versatile. I sort of think they should have just marketed it as personal instead of focusing on the use for chocolate. Finally, unlike my big fondue set that sat in storage for years, this mug takes up little space and will likely get much more use.

The description says that it comes with ‘forks’, but mine only came with one fork. The photos in the description seems to only show one fork, as well. So, for promoting it as date night item, you’ll have to share the one fork, or one can feed the other. Or, you’ll each need to get your own separate date night fondue mug.As for the actual mug, it is a cherry red mug, with a shallow fondue area about 3” diameter (at the top) and 2” deep, but I only use at most 1.25”-1.5" for cheese, chocolate, or butter. You don’t want to fill it to the top.The open area where the votive candle goes is too narrow to slide in the candle. I had to put the standard-sized candle in at a diagonal to get it in, and then light it with a long neck lighter. It does heat up the contents pretty well and quickly. It’s not very big, as it’s a fondue mug for one, it seems big enough and it works well.Edit: I realized why the opening is smaller than the votive. It prevents the candle from falling out of the mug when moving or shifting it around. It's a safety feature rather than thinking it doesn't fit. Alternatively, they could've added a lip to the opening so it wouldn't fall out.

Too small for the tea lights needs to be bigger

Didn’t come in a nice box for that much money they could’ve sprung for a gift box. It just came in a Styrofoam thing. It’s just a fork and a cup would not buy it again. I think I might return it. Not
