I've now ordered two of these (one as a replacement) and both have the pin headers soldered on unevenly. This means the SD IDE adapter does not sit flush in the drive bay. Functions fine electrically but physically it does not work well. I'll be trying another vendor, though I suspect they may all come from the same source.

I bought this to replace the dead hard drive in my AST Ascentia 910N 486 laptop. I tried a very old 128 MB SD card first, and had all kinds of strange issues when I tried to create partitions with fdisk. When I swapped to a 256 MB card, all of my problems went away and it has worked perfectly. I used fdisk to create a primary partition, formatted it, installed MS-DOS 6.22, and then Windows 3.1. Windows boots shockingly fast. My only complaint is that there are no mounting holes for the device - I just had to tape it down in the hard drive bay. But it will be fine.

Initially had problems with cards I tried. Either they were not recognized, or were unstable. I realized though that it was my mistake. This adapter does not work well with SDXC cards. That's no surprise, since it's meant to read SD spec Version 2 (SDHC) not version 3.01 (SDXC). Once I put in an SDHC card I had no problems.
