It helps to release and tighten down the central bolts on the vibration damper. Note: Automatic transmissions only. Comparable to BMW Factory Tool No. 83302222742

This flywheel holder worked very good for the timing chain replacement in my N20 engine. I still had to secure the back of the tool in place with tie-wraps. But, that is no big issue. The net result is the tool fits in the slot and the teeth match the flywheel in the transmission.

UPDATE!!! After about 20 or so uses tool has snapped in two near the teeth where it’s bolted together. Very poor design. Ordered the bmw tool this time.
