The instructions were ridiculous- too much time explaining the obvious and zero time explaining how to actually assemble and use the thing. I finally figured out how to assemble it on my own, but had to watch a review video on Amazon to be able to actually operate it. It’s not a self-operating thing - you have to actively manipulate the motor part (top/lid) in an unnatural fashion the entire time it’s on, that’s how it works. It has a motor but it doesn’t operate without significant hands-on interaction. So if you have arthritis or any issues with issuing both hands to operate this, don’t buy. You can’t just push a button and expect it to work. In fact, there is no button. Watch a video about how to operate this to see what I mean (there are some here in the Amazon reviews)I guess if you have unlimited time and patience to operate this thing to get a very small amount of the thinnest shaved ice* I’ve ever seen, go for it.*I tried both settings, since they were supposed to be different, but there was very little difference (at best). Both “shaved ice” types were so thin that they instantly melted on contact with liquid. The 2 included molds for making size-appropriate ice pieces made a combined total of about 1 1/2 cups of shaved ice. It took me about 5 minutes to grind both ice pieces, not including the time I spent trying to figure out how to put it together & start it. Unless you are planning on using regular ice cubes to supplement, you’ll only ever have a pretty small amount of shaved ice at a time. Maybe would work okay for a single person without kids?Just takes too much time, is too much work, and doesn’t give a great result.

It basically chops the ice up. Super disappointing! My daughter was so sad. My smoothie maker does a better job of shaving ice. Works fast but definitely a let down! I wasted my money and time and it messed up my child’s event

I honestly didn't expect much of this but it works for the most part. Easy to use ,easy to set up, easy to clean. Makes decent shaved ice.

I'm not usually one for picking single purpose appliances in my tiny kitchen, but I live in the subtropics with brutally hot summers and figured that this would be a great way to cool down and have treats during the long, hot months. This snow cone maker takes up less space than I expected, especially when the shaver is stored inside of the base. This snow cone maker is fairly easy to use, but the instructions are lacking in clarity and the shaver can be finicky about getting into position on the base. Once it's settled it's simple to operate for fast, chilled treats. This snow cone maker doesn't shave the ice as fluffy as I would like even on the finest/fluffiest setting. The shavings are crunchy and chunky, and I had hoped for more of a snowy texture than little chunks and pellets. I like soft shaved ice that absorbs syrups, the ice from this machine just gets coated like frosted cereal more than anything until it melts into flavored sugar water. The ice molds are well sized to the machine, release the ice easily, and the ice almost completely gets shaved. There is always a bit of ice left in the shaver hopper, but I suppose that's to be expected.Something that I would change about this machine is to make the base able to support standard sized bowls, or at least include 10-20 paper cones to start with. I have to put my bowls in the base at an angle and turn them to catch the shaved ice as the machine runs. This snow cone machine is alright if you're the type that likes to chew ice chunks and my oldest is in love with this machine- but it doesn't give the light and fluffy shavings that I like, and it could have a base that's more versatile for holding serving containers.Darice Shaved Ice Machine – Crushed Ice Maker with 2 Ice Containers – Ice Shaver Machine for Fine and Coarse Ice – Ice Maker Crushed Ice for Slushie, Snow Cones, Cocktails, Drinks

This shaves ice in cube form or big huge block form. It's very easy to use. You can use 1 of the cups as a mold. It's cheap but effective. Summers here get terribly hot, but some kakigori is a nice short term relief.

I've had several dedicated shaved/shave ice machines, and this Darice unit measures up to all of them. There's a marked difference between the 'crushed' setting and the 'shaved' setting end results. Both are very good.It comes with a couple of lidded molds to make ice pucks to use in the machine, but you can also use ice cubes. The crushed ice product was about the same, either way, but the shaved ice was slightly more uniform with the pucks. Not a difference that most people would notice at all. It's really easy to operate. Once you open the box, you can be enjoying an icy treat in just a minute or two. This is a win, and a fair value.[This is a review for Shaved Ice Machine – Crushed Ice Maker with 2 Ice Containers – Ice Shaver Machine for Fine and Coarse Ice – Ice Maker Crushed Ice for Slushie, Snow Cones, Cocktails, Drinks B0CWJ2XSG6]
