About this item

  • Outside micrometer with flat anvil/spindle pair and a choice of measuring range for general purpose measuring
  • Vernier scale with 0.01mm graduations and 0.001mm accuracy for precise readings
  • Hardened, precision-ground, and carbide-tipped anvil and spindle have 6.5mm measuring faces with micro-lapped finish, 0.00076mm flatness and 0.000125mm parallelism for accurate measurements
  • Hardened, ground and lapped spindle thread provides smooth movement, accuracy, and long life
  • Friction or ratchet-stop thimble provide exact and repetitive readings

The Fowler 52-248 series outside micrometer has a flat anvil/spindle pair with a choice of measuring range and 0.01mm graduations for general purpose measuring. The Vernier scale has 0.01mm graduations and an accuracy of 0.001mm for precise readings and accurate measurements. The anvil/spindle pair has a 6.5mm diameter, 0.00076mm flatness, and 0.000125mm parallelism on the 0 to 25mm micrometer for accurate measurements. Hardened, ground, and micro-lapped measuring faces provide wear resistance. The hardened, ground, and lapped spindle thread provides smooth movement, accuracy, and long life. Friction thimble applies constant force for repeatability between users. Friction-style thimbles are suitable for one-handed operation and stop turning when the spindle comes into contact with the workpiece, providing constant force for consistent measurements between operators. The ratchet-stop thimble can be used independently of the friction thimble. It provides an audible sound and stops the spindle from turning when the spindle comes into contact with the workpiece, providing constant force for consistent measurements between operators. A satin chrome finish on the thimble and sleeve helps reduce rust and glare providing durability and long life, and microfine graduations help ensure accurate readings. The baked-enamel frame provides durability and long life. The micrometer includes a wrench and a fitted case. Micrometers 50mm and above include a standard.

Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometer: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot.

The Fred V. Fowler Company manufactures inspection and measurement instruments such as electronic indicators, calipers, bore gages, and digital scales. The company, founded in 1946, is headquartered in Newton, MA.

Don't waste your time or money. 4 measurements and 4 different readings!

Stuck FAKE metric (ordered) label atop the original Imperial (received) unit label. Very deceitful! Accuracy is twice worse (0.024mm vs claimed 0.01mm). I mean, what the heck guys.. people that buy these tools are machinist and engineers you can't lie to them like this.

I was expecting a well calibrated micrometer with numbers etched in steel instead I got a number printed, plastic sheath functioning as one. I have a magnificent old caliper that was made in the USA that you could pick up at the hardware store in the 1970s. only I needed one in metric. Don't waste your money on this. I doubt it's any more accurate than a $16 one for 3 and a half times the price.

Clean, precise clicks. Easy to calibrate and use. No discernible slop in the dials.
