I used this my 1st day. I got it, and I have to tell you. It explains everything to you perfectly. It works really great easy to read. Nice and big numbers on the meter. No reason to not be able to see it. The likes tell you exactly what's happening. Whether it's working or not all the instructions are on the front of this device. This is really a great tool to have To make sure that everything is working properly. Electrically in your house. There's a lot of options for other things as well. Which I'm learning as I go, but it is a nice way. Well built tool, I highly highly recommend this one. Don't get caught when you sell your house. Because they are grounded, this will tell you amazing. Immediately do this before you sell your house. And eliminate a lot of problems and save yourself a ton of money on electricians

Its kinda funny that it has all those various codes, when really it'd be enough to say good or bad.If you're an electrician looking for the problem, you'd use far pricier and precise tools. If you're anyone else and it displays "bad", change the outlet ($2, cheap/easy DIY worth trying) and if it still doesn't work, call the electrician. All these codes hit a funny middle ground of information that's not enough for pros and too much for everyone else.Note: I personally believe that when it comes to electricity, you're either a pro, or at such serious risk of killing yourself and/or burning down your home that you really shouldn't try anything outside of the basics. All that said, I appreciated the extra info; didn't help me understand what the electrician said about what actually happened, but it helped me understand that I'd do more harm than good trying more, and so just needed to bite the hourly-rate bullet and call a pro.

I'm not an electrician so I'm not very familiar with something like this. I'll have to look into this thing more but all it does is trip my GFCI plug when this is plugged in. The price of 15 USD feels reasonable for something like this. I would possibly order this again after I figure it out.

This outlet tester is compact, practical, and easy to carry. It fits effortlessly into a tool bag or even a pocket, making it convenient for on-the-go use. The black ABS body feels sturdy, and the standard three-prong plug ensures compatibility with most outlets. The device itself has clear indicator labels, so it’s easy to use even without reading the manual. My favorite feature is the LCD screen, which directly displays the voltage reading, much more intuitive than traditional testers that rely only on indicator lights. It also claims to detect GFCI (ground fault protection) issues and common wiring problems.Using it is straightforward, just plug it into an outlet, and the LCD screen immediately lights up, showing the current voltage. My home outlets usually range between 110-120V, and the readings were very stable, matching my multimeter results almost exactly. This gave me confidence in its accuracy. Next to the screen, there are three LED indicator lights, which signal different wiring conditions like "correct wiring," "open ground," or "hot/neutral reverse." The corresponding light pattern, along with the reference guide printed on the device, makes it easy to diagnose any issues.I also tested GFCI outlets in my kitchen and bathroom. Pressing the built-in GFCI test button immediately tripped the outlets, confirming that the safety feature was working correctly. The whole process took just a few seconds—much faster and easier than manual testing.Another thoughtful touch is the backlit LCD screen, which makes readings easy to see even in dimly lit areas.

This tester includes the standard 3-LEDs and a "truth table" that tells you how to read them. If your outlet is properly wired, the first two LEDs (from the left) will be illuminated, and the third (right most) one will be off. This tester also includes a back-lit volt meter that reads the line voltage. The LEDs are bright and easy to read, and the meter seems accurate. This tester is a bit larger than most others, but that's because it includes a volt meter, which most testers like this don't have.

I use four different testers, depending on what set of tools I am carrying with me. What I like about this vs things like the pen beepers is that this tells you the voltage without having to push buttons or choose the right scale. The pens have fooled me many a time telling me there is voltage only to find that the voltage is in single digits on a 120v line.I checked its readings with the multi-tester and they pretty much were in full agreement. Really handy little tester.

The RuoShui Outlet Tester is a good unit to use to check electrical outlets.
