We bought this for our almost 3 yr old. We wanted to use the 30min timer for it to time out once he was asleep. However, we noticed that if that's what we left it as if he were to wake up in the middle of the night he would not be able to turn it on by just tapping it. It had to be switched "on" at the bottom. Not sure about battery life since we kept it plugged in. If it's charging the panda will be red and if it's done charging itll be green. The lowest brightness setting is still pretty bright we usually cover it a little to make darker in his room. It works as an extra light right now, but it's too sensitive so we primarily use our hatch light.
