I put up a new fence for my dogs and this latch is great! I love that it auto latches so I don't have to worry about leaving it open. It's heavy duty and easy to install as well.

This gate latch is about as flexible as they get. Both the fixed and swinging portion have bolt holes on two different faces, so you're bound to find a place to secure it no matter how your gate is configured.The thick shank means even if the gate slams, you shouldn't end up with a bent bracket or poor-closing gate. The spring-loaded latch keeps the gate secure in windy environments. As if that weren't enough, no need to differentiate between left- and right-handed models, you can switch this latch to fit either orientation.

This is replacing a very similar latch which is 15 years old and has a 'spring' issue... the mechanism chafes the spring (see pics) and spring breaks 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘵 every year or two.This unit, half the price of the original (no longer carried by Lowes and neither are the replacement springs) is much heavier and appears to be more stable (I have not yet installed it). The latch itself is solid metal (vs. my current latch with is hollow, pic), the spring is considerably heavier and the mechanism itself does not touch the spring each time it is opened or closed. All in all it appears to be superior quality - there is more mounting hardware so hopefully it will be more stable (the current one has gotten a little 'wobbly' over the years). Unlike my current latch this has 90ᵒ braces; it 'wraps' around the post; my current latch is a 'single plane'.Ironically, because I can't find my current replacement springs I bought a five pack of the next grade up... doesn't fit/work in my current latch... but they are a near perfect match for this one (the replacements have a full loop, which is a more durable design).All in all I'm looking forward to installing once it warms up a bit (the gate is not really used in the winter) so I can retire the bungy cord currently holding the gate closed.

Had a fancy latch with a lock that kept having issues closing smoothly, and struggled with pulling the open cord to open. So went with this more classic simple latch.Easy to install and it feels really heavy duty. At the current price it's pretty exceptional. It opens and closes smoothly. The closing is imperative that there's no issues having a dog and little ones.Was able to combine this with the wire pull that has a spring to help close and it works great.Expecting this thing to last for ages.

Solid product, but can only be considered reversible if you don't care what side of the fence the 'handle' is on.
