We have a steel roof, and leaning a ladder against the edge bends the overhang, and we don't want to damage it. We thought a bracket like this ladder stabilizer would be just the thing. It will work for our house, but it has some issues. The PROS:1) It DOES keep the ladder away from the edge of the roof, the drip rails, and gutters , and leans against the side of the house without damage (and my husband is a bigger guy). It feels stable and secure with minimal wobbling.2) The legs that contact the side of your house are adjustable and have rubber feet, so they don't feel like they'd slide side-to-side.3) Hardware bolts it securely to your ladder with U-bolts on both sides, so the bracket doesn't slide back and forth on your ladder.4) Arrived packaged well; no scratches or other damage, and all hardware was present. The CONS:1) In the pictures of the product, it's shown on a longer ladder (sorry, we weren't using our biggest ladder and attached it to the one we had out), and they have the bracket legs resting on the rooftop. We tried it on our steel roof, and the first thing my husband said was, "It's squirrelly as heck!" He felt like it was prone to sliding around and it made him feel very unstable. He much preferred using it against the side of the wall vs. the rooftop contact method.2) The bracket does NOT FOLD - and it's bolted to the ladder! This makes the ladder impossible to hang on your shed wall without those legs sticking out. You CAN remove the hardware, of course, but this means that every time you want to use it, you'll be spending a few minutes attaching the U-bolts to the ladder, doing your work for the day, and having to remove it to hang it on your truck or to put it away in your shed. We're going to change out the nuts on the U-bolts with wingnuts, but it's a huge design flaw. if this folded, it'd be much more flexible.3) Wherever you mount the bracket, that means that you can only retract your ladder down to the bracket - a significant issue when using taller ladders. It's a hassle just for home use, so I think it'd be a challenge on job sites.4) It'd be nicer if it had bigger feet so it's more flexible for various contact points. The concept is AWESOME, and it'll work at our house so we won't damage our gutters or steel roof edges, but we're going to change the nuts out for wingnuts to make it a little more convenient. It'd be a LOT better if it folded, and we don't think it's as good with the legs on the rooftop compared to a side of a wall (as shown in our pictures).

This stabilizer attached easily to my extension ladder and holds the ladder away from my gutters when I need to clean them or to maintenance. I recently had to replace a broken gutter hanger and the stabilizer let me do it without causing more damage. I do wish there was a way fold the stabilizer down for storage, but removing it and reinstalling it is not a major issue. I have a steep roof and used the stabilizer above the guttering and provided solid footing and the tool holder build into the frame was like having an extra hand. This was an exceptional value compared to some of the others I looked at.
