We bought a number of Continental Gold place settings in 2019 as we really love the simple yet elegant pattern, as it can be used formally as well as for daily use (since it is microwave and dishwasher safe).Unfortunately, the gold on a number of pieces has begun wearing away (only on certain pieces, though--the bowls and dessert plates--so I suspect there was a process problem on those, since the rest of the dishes are fine).As the pattern is now discontinued, I periodically spend a lot of time searching the internet for replacements to keep each place setting intact. I think it's a losing battle though--if I'm lucky I can find maybe two of an item...The odd thing is, at least up to this point (fortunately) the majority of the pieces of each item are still perfectly fine, but the ones that are bad are really bad, despite being treated no differently than the rest of the pieces. On the bad ones, the gold is almost gone completely in large areas of the rim and gently wiping the piece with a paper towel will rub off even more.

If you can get over the fact that this line of china has been discontinued, it represents a pretty good choice for both formal and everyday use. First as an off-white pattern with a simple gold rim, it goes with about everything and will not embarrass you on the table - it looks and feels expensive.But the main feature in my eyes is that it is microwavable and does not fear the dishwasher. There are stashes of this available at various retailers, Lenox outlets and, naturally, Amazon. If you can get the mugs, you'll have a good setup for informal and if you get some serving pieces, you can set a nice table for people who are sophisticated about good china. So basically you can use this pattern for everyday and for company.
