The LENOX 30881-VB1 Vari-Bit Step Drill Bit - 1/8" - 1/2" has a patented two flute design which cuts fast, clean, round holes that are accurate and burr-free. The enhanced flute design also removes chips rapidly to ensure longer tool life. The split point on the tip of the Vari-Bit is designed for faster penetration and prevents walking. I’ve tried all kind of step bits and by far Lenox bits are the best and last the longest . They are more money but last longer . Buy once cry once .

Purchased to drill a hole in a stainless steel sink for an RO system faucet. Used a cordless drill, some tap magic cutting fluid, and kept the speed low...this bit when through the stainless steel almost like it was butter. So I'm satisfied.

Expensive but worth it. I had a cheap HF version and it lasted maybe 30 holes. Yesterday I enlarged over 80 holes in 3/16 steel and works as good as new.

Lenox step drill bit is high quality. Better than the original Uni-Bit brand that Irwin bought and ruined. Dual cutting flutes is a plus compared to other step drill bits. I use Lenox biodegradable drill oil with it.

This is easily the most useful drill bit I have ever purchased. I frequently need to drill clean holes in relatively thin metal and plastic, and regular twist bits are terrible for this (the holes always come out sort of triangular). This bit, on the other hand, makes clean and perfectly round holes through plastic, aluminum, and steel. I've had it for about nine months and use it several times per week, mainly on plastic and aluminum. It's still as sharp and efficient as the day I got it, despite the occasional hole in steel. Use some cutting fluid (like Tap Magic) and it should last a good long while.

Works great on sheet metal. Cuts holes fast and consistant. Saves me a lot of time instead of using several smaller conventional bits and working my way up to a larger bit in order to keep the hole round. I found that it helps if you use a punch and dimple metal drill bit doesn't slide around and use oil to keep the drill tip cool.
