How to Removal Lower Bearing Carrier

Step 1. Remove the lower unit from the outboard and drain the lower casing lube.

Step 2. Remove the propeller from the prop shaft.

Step 3. Remove the two 12mm bolts holding the lower casing cap, followed by the cap itself.

Step 4. Remove the two retaining bolts from the bearing housing.

Step 5. Place a prop shaft housing puller over the bearing housing and remove the housing.

PRO TIP: If the bearing housing doesn't want to come out, heat the lower casing around it with a blow torch. Heating the casing makes it expand, and will help break the bearing housing free.

I got this for Yamaha T60 lower unit bearing case. It has been unopened since 20 years judging by how stuck it was…I used first general purpose bearing pulling tool but hooks on that straightened and so I ordered this. It is heavy and feels heavy duty. Not sure how people have managed to break it but I guess threads could break. As a new, bolts to fix legs were stuck. I got them open with breaker bar and after that everything was smooth and bearing case came out with helping done penetrating oil, breaker bar and in the end bolt gun (lazy me). In my small motor, you need to put legs in place first and then fix them to body of pulling tool. But not a big deal.It is quite expensive for how simple it is, but it does the job. I didn’t find anything cheaper though maybe pro mechanic would have been cheaper option.Interestingly enough it came with QR code to see video.no manual. However that video they did not use tool but used pneumatic way to get bearing case out…

Bad overall quality. I have broken 2 of the carrier pullers with minimal force.

The puller broke the first time I used it.The puller legs for the bearing Carrier didn’t fit together into the body where the screw bolt is located. Poor quality manufacturing.Hade to file the parts to get them to fit in the body section and then on the first pull one of the leg hook ends broke off. It’s a cheap cast iron part not forged steel as it should be.Spend the money and get the real deal.
