I had high hopes that this spring loaded mail slot would replace my current aluminum mail slot. Upon removing it from its packaging, I lifted the door to see if it functioned properly. Unfortunately, the door just stayed in which ever position I opened it to.Never one to give up quickly, I lubricated the hinge points and noticed the steel rod holding the door in place was quite rusted. Next, I opened and closed the door at least 50 times to see if I could free up the mechanism. I noticed that the spring attached to the door wasn't strong enough to overcome the friction of the rusted steel rod.Based on how this item arrived, I cannot recommend it as a useful mail slot.I will persist in my attempt to get the spring-loaded door to work properly. If I am successful, I will update this review.
