I picked up the 9' 5wt variation of this rod.The case is light and durable, and provides excellent protection for the rod inside. The 4 sections each have their own pocket. The rod sections seat perfectly, and have dots provided to ensure you line it up perfectly every time. I really appreciate the spare tip provided, though I have never broken one (knock on wood) I know that day will eventually come, and I will be happy to have the spare. The cork grip is very smooth and comfortable. Cork is better than any other handle material, as far as I am concerned.I am using a 25 year old reel with 5wt floating fly line down to a 5x leader for casting a wide range of flies and the rod handles it all. I just love fishing those sunsets on the river with dries, I had a great day last week with it catching rainbows and browns. As a beginner looking to pick up your first rod or your first rod for specific application, there is a lot of value in this!

I'm reviewing the 5wt version. This rod is an excellent option for someone looking for a good performing fly rod and is on a budget. It's not a super-fast action rod. I'd describe it more as a med-fast action (leaning more toward the 'fast' side). It loads line relatively fast but you don't have to be Hercules to get things going. I tested this rod using RIO Elite Indicator 5wt line. I was able to perform flawless roll casts and shoot line easily while using an indicator rig. It also performed well throwing size #8 streamers even after they're waterlogged. I haven't tossed any dries with it yet but will be soon enough and I'm sure this rod is up to the task. The build quality is very good. The reel seat isn't anything fancy but secures the reel as good as any other. The half-wells cork grip is comfortable with no visible flaws. There is a hook-keep just north of the cork grip and I'm very happy to see that. Most major rod manufacturers ave done away with this feature and that's just sad. All of the guides align perfectly and the sections seat together well. This rod includes a spare tip section which is super generous and just an excellent bonus. The case is strong and each section of the rod (including the spare tip) has it's own separate compartment. Overall this rod is an exceptional value whether you're a seasoned flyfishing veteran or a budget minded beginner. It's well built, comes with a spare tip section, and a really nice case. I didn't expect it to be this nice but it really is. It performs well and it has earned a spot in my arsenal of fly fishing gear. Kudos, there's nothing to dislike about this rod.
